On this week's episode, we spoke with costume designer, educator, and 2024 Herbert D. Greggs Honor Award winner, Anastasia Goodwin about her winning article, "The Costume History Classroom as Laboratory" which appeared in the Fall 2022 issue of our journal Theatre Design & Technology (TD&T). We chatted with Anastasia about her passion for education, the innovative teaching methods covered in her article, how these methods can enhance the learning experience for students, and what she hopes the costume history classroom continues to grow into. The Herbert D. Greggs Award (highest honor) and the Herbert D. Greggs Merit Award promote innovative, in-depth writing about theatre design and technology in TD&T. Named in honor of a highly-regarded former USITT General Manager, the Herbert D. Greggs Award was first given in 1979. The "Merit Awards" began in 1998. In Salon.com's new profile package series, Who Are You Now?, MaryElizabeth Williams sits down with Peter Gallagher to see how he really feels about becoming best known for playing Sandy Cohen, the understanding dad on "The O.C." I love a good deep dive into an interesting career that has sustained several pivots. Who Are You Now? wants to understand what it's like when a person becomes known for one reason—in the case of an actor, one sort of role, medium, or genre—and then continues to push into new territory. What are the throughlines? What are the friction points? What does it take to change the public's perception of who you are, then and now?

🌟🎭 Acting Lesson: The Key to Preparation 🎭🌟 Dear aspiring actors and actresses, Today, let's dive into the art of preparing for a role, a crucial aspect of acting that shapes the depth and authenticity of every performance. As talent managers at Elevate Management, we believe in the vital importance of this fundamental step. The first golden rule? 📚 Research. Immerse yourself in your character's world, explore their motivations, fears, deepest desires. Understand their history, context, psychology. The more you know, the more you can bring to life a rich and nuanced character. Next, personal investment. 💪 Fully embrace the emotion, challenges, and triumphs of your character. Walk in their shoes, feel what they feel, live what they live. It is in this total immersion that the magic of authentic acting is born. Remember: preparation is the key that unlocks the door to memorable performances. 🎥 Whether on stage, on screen, or elsewhere, invest fully in each role and let your passion shine through your art. Let's continue to inspire each other and elevate our talents to new heights! 🚀 #Acting #Art #Preparation #RolePreparation #ElevateManagement #Passion #Authenticity

This feature on the upcoming Mr. and Mrs. Smith series puts it best: we live in a culture heavily inundated by remakes and sequels. But in a landscape so saturated with these kinds of projects, it begs an important question of what unique value which remakes and sequels offer. The answer here – that this version of Mr. and Mrs. Smith is more character-driven, focused on the people at the center of the spy story – sounds like an interesting way to approach a story that has already been told one way. https://lnkd.in/gk-a5YUa It reminds me of a recent interview with the showrunner of Netflix’s live-action Avatar: the Last Airbender adaptation, one of my most anticipated shows for 2024. (https://lnkd.in/gMUrHd4k) He asks the question, “Is there a way to improve upon the original?” While the matter of improving upon the original cartoon is yet to be seen, Kim teases that storylines were “unraveled” and “remixed” in a new way to fit a serialized drama. This now brings up an all-new question: does this new approach honor the story that it’s retelling? #filmmaking #upcoming #remakes #intellectualproperty #entertainment #entertainmentindustry #entertainmentlaw
