TBT: Seems like only yesterday … Army Leaders this week learned how the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) is preparing Soldiers to leverage Fourth Wave technologies that will incorporate AI & Advanced Robotics during competition, crisis, and potentially the next conflict. From leveraging Cloud computing across the conflict area, to small autonomous airborne, land-based, and sea-based drones to augment Soldier reconnaissance & surveillance capabilities. Might be time to start talking about those ‘Three Laws of Robotics,’ which Isaac Asminov thought up during the late 1940s and 1950s. And based on James Cameron’s 40-year old SciFi classic, as well as the recent release of The Creator, Congress might want to get involved when folks start talking about giving AI & Advanced Robotics weapons release authority. And some states will take advantage of this to entrench their authoritarianism, we in the west have to defend our values, and not slip into authoritarianism. One of the best parts about being in the corporate workforce thinking through the Veteran point of view is realizing you have the choice to choose. You don’t always get a choice in the military, and you definitely don’t get to pick your bosses. The saying is absolutely true that people don’t quit their jobs, they quit their bosses. Thinking of it from the veteran point of view, you no longer have to deal with a company commander screaming at you because you didn’t have the right screwdriver for change of command inventory, or the colonel downgrading your award because you aren’t the rank they consider as eligible to receive the award that you deserve. You have a right to choose. If the company isn’t right for you, move on. You are a product of your environment. If your environment is not helping you succeed, go find the one that will. April 23 marks the birthday of the United States Army Reserve. Following World War I, under the National Defense Act of 1920, Congress reorganized the United States land forces by authorizing a Regular Army, a National Guard, and an Organized Reserve (Officer Reserve Corps and Enlisted Reserve Corps) of thirty-five divisions, which later became the #ArmyReserve. History in 60 Seconds: What do you know about Roman Legions? The Roman legion was the backbone of the powerful Roman army for centuries. Here's a breakdown of some key points: 1) Elite Infantry: For most of the Roman Empire's history, legions were the elite heavy infantry of the Roman army. 2) Citizen Soldiers: Early legions were composed entirely of Roman citizens. After reforms by Marius in 107 BC, citizenship wasn't a requirement, but it remained a prestigious role. 3) Size and Organization: The size of legions varied over time, but typically consisted of around 5,200 men during the height of the Empire. They were structured into smaller units called cohorts, centuries, and contubernia. For comparison, a US Army brigade consists of a few battalions and anywhere from 3,000 to 5,000 soldiers.
