Great recognition of our superb values-led approach, and particularly good to see that the critical cross-cutting themes of Diversity and Inclusion, and Environmental Sustainability are being recognised. Across the sector, these must be at the fore of how we evolve within the current fiscal and regulatory environment. What we do, and how we do it, matter.
We have been awarded a prestigious 5 Stars and rated ‘excellent’ by QS Stars, a globally recognised university rating system. 🎉 This highlights our commitment to excellence across a wide range of categories to create a great experience for our UK and international students, from graduate employability to sports facilities and community engagement. Our 5 Star rating includes standout performances across categories including environmental impact and diversity, equity, and inclusion—areas at the heart of who we are. https://lnkd.in/eZfFzCQ3

Since then we have focused on inspiring young women and other equity-seeking groups to connect with professionals to encourage and empower them as leaders in Science, Engineering, Technology, and Trades (S.E.T.T.). This focus has not only been on the academic development of girls and non-binary youth in primary, secondary, and post-secondary institutions, but also on the professional development of women and non-binary people looking for mentorship, guidance, and support throughout their careers.

On February 23rd and 24th I had the opportunity to both compete in the DECA Pacific Northwest Career Development Conference as well as assist in managing the event. Doing both was quite an undertaking but I wouldn’t change it for anything. Here are some things I learned from managing this event! 💬 Communication 💬 From inception to execution, communication is at the forefront of everything. Establishing early on who are the stakeholders, subject matter experts, and event producers is critical to how you will establish communication lines, how often check-ins are required, and how they wish to be communicated with (whether by email memo, in depth check-ins, or meetings). When managing a large scale event there are many hands that are helping (thankfully!) and everyone needs to be on the same page all the way down to the day of event. 🙋 Volunteers 🙋 As an event manager you’re unable to do everything on your own so without their help the conference could not have happened! We needed helpers to assist with pre-conference signage and room set up. Day of they assisted with directing parking, timing, escorting students from their prep area to their competition rooms setting out dinner and breakfast. 🪧 Signage 🪧 Having proper signage makes a world of a difference for attendees. On campus, students needed to walk from our main building over to the buildings where the competitive events were. Shoreline CC’s campus is gorgeous but it can also be a bit confusing to find your way around. Correct and enough signage allows for foot traffic to flow appropriately and minimizes bottlenecking. In turn this adds to the overall experience for those at the conference! 🏅The cherry on top was winning 3rd in State for the Individual Event: Travel and Tourism and 2nd in Entrepreneurship: Starting a Business with my partner Andrew Kariuki! We’ll be taking our product to the next level at ICDC in Austin!
