Saturday Statistics: 60% of a patient's chart is diagnostic information. There are CT technicians, Lab technicians, Ultrasound technicians to help collect that information, however, urine and stool samples fall back into the nurse's busy list of to-dos. What does that have to do with P-Stik? P-Stik enables vulnerable populations the tools to collect those diagnostics themselves- preserving dignity and decreasing nurse's workload!

The OR is a whirlwind. As an OR nurse, my day starts with a chart review, a chat with my surgical team and scrub tech, and gathering supplies. Then, I count surgical items and interview my patient before we roll into the OR. In the OR, the patient is put to sleep, positioned, prepped, and draped. I update the family, chart everything, administer meds, and run around like crazy. Near the end, I count items with the scrub tech to ensure nothing's left behind. After the procedure, the patient heads to PACU, and the room gets a top-to-bottom clean. This hectic job has made me a pro at organizing and prioritizing. I've learned to trust my team and keep things running smoothly—skills that will serve me well in the medical device industry. It’s a great job, a tough job, and a worth-it job. And no, I don’t actually get to rest!

Did you know that I almost quit Sterile Processing 8 years ago to become a paramedic? 😷 I've seen a lot of posts recently about the decision we may want to or have to make to leave the Sterile Processing industry. A change is professions is a BIG decision. But just because it's a tough one, doesn't mean it should or shouldn't happen. Here are some things we can ask ourselves and do to create clarity and courage in this radical decision. * What is elevating us to this decision point? A need for something new? Lack of opportunities? Fustration? Stagnation? * Are we changing jobs only to find ourselves in a similar situation after a length of time? * Make a list of external motivational factors (these can be positive and negative things). * Make a list of internal needs and fulfillment that we are, aren't, would like to get out a profession. * What needs to happen in order for us to consider staying or going? * How much of the items listed in our lists can we personally control? I have gone through a number of radical personal, mental, and health changes in my life and this decision was definitely one of them. I didn't have a mentor or any real professional colleagues at the time of this crossroad. I think this mini mentorship session will help! If you are experiencing this please know you can reach out to me in the comments below or messenger. 🤓 I'll be sad to see you go and would love to be a part of your professional development journey if you stay. Regardless, I am proud to call you my fellow Sterile Processing colleague!! 🤘 #sterileprocessing #hspa #cbspd #professionaljourney #quit
