Are you ready for #GreatAmericanOutdoorsDay? (Actually, every day is an outdoor day for us!) On Friday, August 4th, in honor of the third anniversary of the Great American Outdoors Act, park entrance fees will be waived. What if there’s not a park near me? Chances are, there’s a park closer than you think. There are over 400 national park areas spread across the country. Check nps.gov and search state by state to find one close to you. (Keep in mind the nearest park entrance may be behind you.) What is the Great American Outdoors Act? The Great American Outdoors Act (#GAOA) provides funding to improve infrastructure, address extensive and long-overdue maintenance and repair needs, and expand recreation opportunities in national parks across the country. Supporting and protecting our natural spaces is now more important than ever. As we are experiencing scorching temperatures all over the world, it is essential to preserve and protect those unique ecosystems not just because they are "pretty" or "nice". (And yes, that's important too.) A lot of those places are actual essential for ecosystem preservation for both animal and plant species that we so desperately need for our own survival as a species. The more diverse an ecosystem is, the more resilient it is and the more chances we have to thrive as humans. It's all connected (even when you think it isn't). Search the closest NP or state park, go out there (weather allowing) and experience it! The 27.5 mile Joe Louis Greenway is a planned biking and walking trail that extends from the Detroit Riverfront to Highland Park, Dearborn, and Hamtramck. This greenway will allow residents to connect parks and neighborhoods across the city, allowing residents to travel safely from McNichols to the riverfront—all without a car—through a combination of new trails, on-street protected bike lanes and links to existing trails like the Dequindre Cut and the RiverWalk. The greenway includes the cities of Dearborn, Hamtramck, and Highland Park, linking them to larger trail systems that crisscross the entire state as well as pass-through five council districts. When completed, it will provide a place for people of all abilities to safely walk, bike, and run while connecting neighborhoods, parks, schools, jobs, historic sites, commercial corridors and public transit.” Do your research. I had a very interesting conversation with one of the UK's leading bodies in restoration and heritage and how a sustainable transport system can working together with their carbon reduction and green agendas. I will be asking them to be part of the "Get on Board" team. Their frustrations where not about the transport industry, rather than the way other organisations value the role something plays in the community. This value can be through bringing people into a given area and enabling growth as well as reducing the expenditure on accidents and repairs on our road network as well as decreasing the carbon output. I would like to understand from other such organisations how a improved or reopened railway can benefit the area, your business, the communities it serves, as well as less obvious awards of less traffic on our roads, which creates potentially less expenditure. The role of an "influencer" comes in various shapes and organisations and bringing your on board will widen the message on the benefits of railway when it comes to improving lives. If you are are organization that will benefit from the railway reopening in your community then I would like to hear from you, and i have listed some of the towns and communities that are on the list for reopening: 1. Tavistock - Devon and Dartmoor 2. Cullompton - Devon East & West 3. Wellington - Somerset 4. Ivanhoe Line - Leicester to Burton on Trent via Coalville and National Forest 5. Barrow Hill Line - Chesterfield to Sheffield via Barrow Hill and Wavertree 6. Don Valley - Sheffield to Stocksbridge 7. Ferryhill new station between Middlesborough and Durham 8. Haxby new station between York and Malton 9. Meir new station between Stoke on Trent and Uttoxeter 10. Stoke on Trent to Leek reopening 11. Gobowen to Oswestry All these stations and lines run near or close to large national parks, historic houses and monuments, open countryside and major tourist attractions, to name a few Dartmoor National Park, Killerton House, Wellington Monument, Alton Towers, Potteries, Canals, National Forest and so on. However, as the state's population continues to grow, concerns over traffic congestion along the scenic yet bustling Highway 55 have surged. In response, the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) has embarked on an ambitious project to not only preserve this iconic landmark but also to construct modern infrastructure alongside it, ensuring the bridge continues to connect generations. While Highway 55 offers breathtaking vistas, its infrastructure struggles to accommodate the influx of travelers. It is ill-equipped to handle the surge in traffic, jeopardizing not only the serenity of the journey but also the safety of all travelers. As we tackle these challenges, one promising solution is exploring alternative routes for north and south travel. By diversifying our transportation options, we alleviate strain on Highway 55 while preserving its scenic beauty.  We encourage everyone to express any concerns to ITD or legislators about how this construction will impact traffic and safety on Highway 55, or to express their support for an alternative route.
