BREAKING NEWS: Salt Lake County and the "Wasatch Back" Will Receive a Combined Total of Over $34.3 Million In Federal Grant Monies to Replace Older Diesel Buses with Electric Buses. As important as the individual grants are — $18.1MM to the Utah Transit Authority and $16.275MM to High Valley Transit (via the Utah Department of Transportation), respectively ... and they ARE important — make no mistake about this. The BIGGER news is the combined value of both grants together. Duh!!! 👀 👀 👀 And any journalist / media outlet that missed that point, did just that ... They. Missed. It. 🤷♂️ 🤷♂️ 🤷♂️ Anyways ... sorry for being a bit dogmatic and direct this morning, but after the crazy events of Butler, Pennsylvania over the weekend, I've decided I can no longer pussyfoot around certain topics or be swayed by calls to avoid offending others. (KY3) - Neighbors in Christian County are up in arms over a proposal to build a large battery storage facility near Ozark. They say only a handful of households were even told about it ahead of time. The project has been proposed by Black Mountain Energy Storage and if approved it would sit behind the substation off Old Prospect Road and Elk Valley. The facility would store lithium ion batteries and the people living nearby told KY3 they’re upset not only with the potential environmental impacts but they say they barely got any notice. “If it is safe, that’s great, but prove it to us,” said area HOA president Jack Peavey. Black Mountain Energy Storage wants to build on 30+ acres of land near Ozark for a lithium ion battery storage facility. Those in the area like Kendra Blankenship say there was little notice about an upcoming Planning and Zoning meeting. “So there’s approximately five to seven homes that were actually notified,” said Blankenship. “Nobody else outside of that radius had any idea until we started speaking about it.” The facility would be surrounded by 8 foot fences and would contain more than 50 large battery containers. Canary: "Minnesota takes rare step to allow power lines alongside highways." Other states have taken this action or are contemplating it, including Wisconsin, Iowa, California, Washington, Oregon, Maine, New Hampshire. "But states have been slow to shift from long-standing policies that aim to keep highway rights-of-way clear of other infrastructure that could compromise safety, burden transportation departments with unforeseen costs, or restrict the option of expanding highways in the future." In Minnesota, the chief forum for transmission expansions runs through the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO), the grid operator for all or part of 15 U.S. states and Canada’s Manitoba province."NextGen Highways is also lobbying for federal legislation that could support state efforts to site transmission along highways."
