BIG NEWS: The University of Houston has ascended 22 spots to rank No. 46 among public universities on the latest Forbes list of America’s Top Colleges for 2025. The annual list ranks the 500 schools that produce successful, high-earning and influential graduates from all economic backgrounds, with less student debt. The rankings are based on several key metrics, prioritizing outcomes that matter most to students and their families. UH performed well in the Forbes ranking due in large part to the success of our students and the University’s efforts to breakdown socioeconomic disparities. The best faculty attract the best students. Investing in faculty has a multiplier effect as they play a central role in the success of students and the college’s research and industry engagement. The college needs to increase the number of endowed chairs, professorships and faculty support funds in order to compete for world-class faculty. As with last year, the rankings are derived from a number of metrics. Two that contribute to the ranking: No. 39 in social mobility (universities with the highest proportion of students coming from lower-income families and maintaining high graduation rates), an increase of nine spots from 2024 rankings. No. 44 in best alumni salaries (impact on graduate salaries in relation to the cost of attending), an increase of 21 spots from 2024 rankings.
