Ever wondered how Uber Eats affects Uber’s core rideshare business? In her latest research, #RossEE Assoc. Prof. Maggie Zhou uncovers the hidden costs of Uber’s diversification into food delivery. Zhou and her team found that as Uber Eats grew, it significantly reduced the volume of Uber and Lyft rideshare trips. This drop is largely due to drivers switching between services to maximize their earnings. Read more to discover the broader implications for platform businesses. #UberEats https://myumi.ch/XGjmW

🛵🍔 Uber Eats Impact on Ridesharing 🚗 Recent findings from a University of Michigan - Stephen M. Ross School of Business study reveal that Uber Eats has significantly reduced rideshare volumes for both Uber and Lyft. The shift is attributed to drivers opting for food delivery during idle times, causing longer wait times for rideshare users. This trend highlights the hidden costs of platform diversification and its ripple effects on the industry. #UberEatsEffect #RideshareDecline #PlatformDiversification https://lnkd.in/edCHHbrN

Practical Experience-Based Guidelines for Improving Uber Eats Delivery System Over the past two months, working as a delivery cyclist with Uber Eats in Ireland, I have gained valuable insights into the challenges faced by cyclists and delivery personnel. These include inefficient order allocation, safety concerns during night deliveries, and inconsistent compensation for long-distance deliveries. Through this proposal, I aim to provide practical, real-world solutions to improve the delivery system for cyclists, ensuring better efficiency, safety, and fairer compensation. I believe these improvements will benefit not only delivery personnel but also customers and the Uber Eats platform itself, resulting in faster deliveries and a more motivated workforce. #PracticalExperience #UberEatsImprovement #CyclistDelivery #BusinessOptimization #FoodDeliveryInnovation #EfficiencyInDelivery #SustainableSolutions #RiderSafety #UberEatsRiders #CyclistExperience

If you’ve worked in food delivery or ride hailing you know that the drivers pool is very liquid. Drivers like to hop on different gigs to optimize for making the most income in the least time. That leads to drivers to change zones, compare apps, etc. Well, what I never thought about was that in some places the drivers pool is the same for food delivery and ride hailing. That’s what happens in NYC. This new study from Uber Eats in NYC suggests that the growth of food delivery over the last years has led to a decline in ride sharing volumes. The reason? Quite interesting. The reason is because food delivery paid better than ride hailing, so drivers switched off their ride hailing apps and focused on delivering food. When this happens, the ride hailing driver supply shrinks → driving prices ups → ride hailing travellers find alternatives as it’s too expensive.

Have you ordered a meal on Uber Eats before? Reflect on the positive impact it had on you. These are the things that have led them to: 🌏 Control 29% of the global food delivery market (Curry, 2020). 💸 Be valued at $20 billion (Curry, 2020). 📅 Make more revenue in the first half of 2020 than all of 2019 (Curry, 2020). Their success came from them taking the time to: ✔️ Identify a true problem that existed ✔️ Identify the needs of the people who were facing that problem ✔️ Experiment with possible solutions to solve the problem ✔️ Implement the solution that best met the needs of their customers and the problem that they faced. If you want to achieve better results for your customers like Uber Eats does, a human-centred design approach is the solution you are looking for. We teach people like you how to run workshops that achieve these results. Right now our 8 week July cohort is open for enrolment (closes 15th July 2024 9AM AEST).
