On July 11, 2024 Senator Pavel Payano delivered powerful testimony in support of raising the age of juvenile convictions to include 18-year-olds. Senator, thank you for championing this initiative and for supporting young adults in the Commonwealth! #raisetheage #Massachusetts #criminaljusticereform
THIS! How can we have a system that focuses solely on the punitive aspect of incarceration and then expect different results on the other end? Giving young people the opportunity to grow, learn from their mistakes, AND providing them with the support, mentorship, and mental health access is imperative if we want to see the changes that we know ALL people are capable of making. Thank you for bringing awareness to people whose voices often go unnoticed or ignored.
I'm still of the mentality that an 18 year old is far from having the intellectual maturity we hold them accountable for, in many aspects. 💯 in support of this initiative.
I agree with him. 100%
Thank you Senator Payano!

2moWe should also have a dyslexia screening process for these young people. Way too many Black and Hispanic students go undiagnosed or misdiagnosed in school. They are not taught to read and many enter a life of crime. New MA laws require students in K-3 to be screened, but we have so many other students that need this type of support as well.
