Voith Schneider Propellers (VSP) lose less thrust in the event of air intake (ventilation) - a great advantage when working in high waves. Why is this so? In contrast to screw propellers, the underpressure distribution is relatively homogeneous over the propeller blade and the maximum underpressures are therefore much lower for VSPs. A VSP also rotates very slowly, approx. 30% is only the RPM compared to a screw propeller. Therefore, the thrust loss caused by ventilation is considerably lower. This brings significant advantages, especially in Dynamic Positioning (DP) in heavy weather. More information can be found in the paper attached below from a Symposium on Marine Propulsors (SMP), where numerical and experimental results are provided. #VSP #Voith #VoithSchneiderPropeller

(#LetsTalkETCS Post 10) Welcome back to #LetsTalkETCS In our previous posts, we discussed Level 0 and Level NTC. Both of these levels have ETCS installed and active on the onboard side while the trackside has no ETCS. However, in Level 1, we start implementing ETCS on our trackside. Here are some key points to remember about Level 1 (Subset 26 Chapter 2: 2.6.5): Continuous Supervision: The onboard system continuously supervises the maximum permitted speed and calculates the braking curve to the location where the train is allowed to go, known as End of Authority (EoA). Intermittent Communication: There is non-continuous communication between the train and the trackside in Level 1. Eurobalise, which is placed at various planned locations on the trackside, is used along with the Antenna & Balise Transmission Module (BTM) installed on the train to ensure that the trackside information is sent to the train. Lineside signals are still necessary in Level 1 applications because the track occupancy is still monitored by the trackside detection system. If a lineside signal clears in Level 1, the approaching train will not receive this information until it has passed the Eurobalises at that signal. Therefore, the driver has to observe the lineside signal to know when to proceed. The train must be permitted to approach the stopping location below a maximum permitted release speed. In our next post, we will take a closer look at how Eurobalise works.

SITRANS FST070 thrills with precise measurement in flow, the technology module is able to quickly begin measuring flow and can easily retrofit existing installations. The module works in conjunction with Sitrans FSS200 clamp-on ultrasonic sensors, thus, almost any flow process can be monitored with the ultrasonic measuring principle. The sensor pairs are simply attached to the pipelines from the outside - quite simple, huh? Sounds too good to be true? Then convince yourself: https://sie.ag/5bh9Xp #processinstrumentation #SitransFst070

In case of the PMSM, the rotor field speed must be equal to the stator (armature) field speed (i.e., synchronous). The loss of synchronization between the rotor and stator fields causes the motor to halt. Field Oriented Control (FOC) represents the method by which one of the fluxes (rotor, stator or air gap) is considered as a basis for creating a reference frame for one of the other fluxes with the purpose of decoupling the torque and flux-producing components of the stator current. The decoupling assures the ease of control for complex three-phase motors in the same manner as DC motors with separate excitation. This means the armature current is responsible for the torque generation, and the excitation current is responsible for the flux generation. In this application note, the rotor flux is considered as a reference frame for the stator and air gap flux.
