I've been seeing quite a few contract roles requiring "current SC clearance" or "active DV clearance" and wondering how recruiters and high-security clients expect to find qualified candidates? It's a valid question, especially when there can't be that many engineers and enterprise or solution architects moving between roles within the likes of the MoJ or Home Office. I've had SC clearance in the past, but that's well expired now. How can we bridge the gap and ensure that both recruiters and clients find the right candidates for these high-security roles? #jobseekers #securityclearance #recruiting #hiring #jobsearch
I never quite understand this myself. To my understanding clearance is “lapsed” at the end of a contract or role. I know a case where it took 2 months to transfer an active clearance. Would a business wait for that?
It's a while since I had mine but I seem to remember that SC you can refresh or regain relatively quickly if you hadn't been busy with anything unusual. DV was the biggest pain. There were also issues with one SC not being the same as another! - which made it difficult to move from one area to another. A political issue I suspect that could be resolved.
I have the SC but most are now going inside with very low rates My existing “outside SC role is ending this month with no more suitable SC roles around

7moI've just had my SC clearance renewed. Whilst working within an organisation such as the MoD this is a painless exercise as they have ready access to the UKSV portal and the process is free (to the MoD employee). However, as an independent consultant I can assure anybody getting a sponsor and regaining SC Clearance is about as easy as running a 3 legged marathon blindfolded. Recruiters have no perception of what they sometimes request and this needs to change. Job adverts should ask for previous SC clearance (as this demonstrates you are clearable) or willing to undergo clearance. Expecting you to rock up fully vetted is just an indication that they have no idea neither how vetting does and should work.
