Selfishness and self-awareness are two distinct concepts that relate to understanding one's own worth or value, but they have different implications and connotations. Selfishness refers to a focus on one's own needs, desires, and interests at the expense of others. It often involves a lack of consideration or concern for the well-being of others and a primary focus on personal gain or benefit. Selfishness can lead individuals to prioritize their own needs above anything else, potentially disregarding the impact of their actions on others. On the other hand, self-awareness relates to having a conscious understanding of oneself, including one's thoughts, emotions, strengths, weaknesses, and motivations. It involves being introspective, reflecting on one's actions and their consequences, and gaining insight into one's own character. Self-awareness allows individuals to have a realistic perception of their abilities and limitations, which can contribute to a healthy sense of self-esteem and worth. Calculating one's own worth involves evaluating and assessing oneself in various aspects of life, such as personal achievements, skills, relationships, and contributions. While a selfish person may primarily seek to inflate their own worth without considering the impact on others, a self-aware person will engage in a more balanced and realistic assessment. Self-awareness can help individuals recognize their strengths and weaknesses, identify areas for improvement, and make more-informed choices that align with their values and goals. It promotes a sense of authenticity and congruence between one's actions and beliefs. By understanding oneself better, individuals can develop a healthier and more accurate perception of their worth, which is not solely based on personal gain but also on personal growth, relationships, and the impact they have on others. In summary, selfishness involves a self-centered and disregardful approach that prioritizes personal gain, while self-awareness promotes introspection, reflection and a realistic understanding of one's own worth based on a broader range of factors.
