Case in point, over the weekend my husband tried to return a pair of athletic shoes that weren't wearing well. He found his way to the brick and mortar store to speak with a real person and to physically show them the issue he was having. Simple right? Nope. Instead he was directed to the website. Complete fail. Marketing is dedicated to drawing customers to the brand, yet operational procedures often contradict these goals. Consistency builds the brand image. Flexibility sustains the brand message. McDonald --> yellow ‘M’ – a no brainer right. You see this consistency everywhere. What if I tell you there’s one McDonald in the world that doesn’t follow ‘the golden arches’, and go with a turquoise one? The city of Sedona, located in the center of Arizona, is famous for its stunning natural beauty. As a result, there’s rules for buildings to follow in order to ensure no structure intrudes too much on the surrounding natural scenery – and the bright yellow “M” would do just that as that will clash with the surrounding red rocks. Therefore, they opt for a ‘more pleasing’ soft blue instead. Consistency in #branding is key, but this colour-change shows how McDonald as a brand is respectful, adaptive, and versatile when it comes to serving their customers in different cities. In my eye, this is another level of branding. It's a humane approach, and leave you in awwwww.
