On the International Day of Education, we are celebrating the transformative power of education. With over 129 million girls worldwide out of education, we are committed to making a difference. Through initiatives like the Oneness Education Initiative, launched in 2022 to bring quality education to children in remote Indian villages, and our Vaculug Scholarship program at the University of Oxford, we’re breaking barriers to help young minds reach their potential. In 2024, we expanded our mission with “Hankook Hopes”, pledging £5 for every Alphatread produced in our factory to support the education of less fortunate girls. Together, we can build a brighter future for all! #vaculug #education #internationaldayofeducation #oneness #scholarship #hankookhopes #growth #future #sustainablethinking

Literacy is the foundation of all learning, enabling individuals, communities, and societies to thrive. On the International Literacy Day 8th Sep, I want to highlight the educational challenges faced by my hometown, Kotli Sattian, a tehsil in District Murree. Kotli Sattian, nestled in the scenic hills, is a region of breathtaking beauty but also faces profound educational challenges. The rugged terrain and remote villages make access to education difficult, particularly for girls who face considerable barriers to attending school regularly. The literacy rate in Kotli Sattian remains below overall. Gender disparities are stark, with female literacy lagging due to cultural norms, lack of facilities, and safety concerns. The number of out-of-school children is alarming, and the dropout rate is especially high among girls after primary education, largely due to the lack of secondary schools within accessible distances. To address these challenges, I propose the following initiatives: Transportation Services: Establish safe and reliable transport options, such as free school buses or vans, to ensure that girls in remote areas can attend school without facing the risks associated with long distances and the expense of fares. Higher Education Access: Institutions like Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU), Virtual University, and other colleges and universities establish local campuses in Kotli Sattian. These campuses would support distance learning, face-to-face, and online education programs, addressing the reluctance of many families to send their children, especially girls, to other cities for education. Additionally, these campuses would provide essential facilities such as internet access and computer labs, enabling students to fully participate in online classes, submit assignments, and take quizzes without the burden of inadequate home resources. This initiative will also promote and facilitate access to higher education, allowing girls to pursue their studies in the safety and comfort of their homes. By addressing these key areas, we can work towards a brighter future for Kotli Sattian, where every child has the opportunity to learn and thrive. #InternationalLiteracyDay #EducationForAll #KotliSattian #EmpowerGirls #CommunityDevelopment #LiteracyMatters #EducationReform Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan Maryam Nawaz Sharif Shehbaz Sharif

Next up in our #EducationReport spotlight series is the National Foundation for Educational Research (NFER)'s case study on ‘Supporting Playful STEM Teaching and Learning’ in #Rwanda. The NFER is a leading independent provider of education research, evaluation and assessment solutions. Their mission is to generate evidence and insights that can be used to #ImproveLearning outcomes for future generations everywhere, and to support #PositiveChange across education systems. The Plug in Play Programme (PIP), active in #Rwanda since 2021, aimed to improve the #quality of education for boys and girls by supporting ‘learning through play with technology’ (LtPT). NFER conducted a learning study in 2022 to understand the experiences of using LtPT approaches in Science and Elementary Technology lessons as part of PIP. Education need not only pertain to the academics. It is a process of learning and teaching, the knowledge gained through learning, in addition to the academic field that studies teaching. Education can be formal, non formal or informal too and include the cultivation of critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving skills, and ethical decision-making. It can help shape individuals and societies, and empower people to become lifelong learners. The word ‘EDUCATION’ is derived from the Latin words—’Educare ,Educere, Educo and Educatum’ ‘Educare’ means ‘to bring up’ or to ‘nourish’, ‘Educere’ means ‘To draw out’ or to ‘manifest’ ‘Educo’ means ‘to lead out of’ ‘Educatum’ means ‘ Act of teaching or instruction’‘Educere’ means To draw out or to manifest. The term Educare or Educere mainly indicates development of the latent faculties of the child. The goal of education is to develop physical, mental ,emotional, social, moral and spiritual aspects of life. Education is a life long process. It starts from the cradle to grave. In broader sense, Teacher in the process of education is friend ,philosopher and Guide. Today being the National Education Day ( in India) may we invest atleast a minimum of two hours per week in educating/empowering ourselves and others? I had the pleasure of meeting Dr Deborah Netolicky at the HALT Summit in 2022, and I couldn’t agree more with her insights in this article. As we continue to explore the role of AI in education, it’s important to remember that while technology has a valuable place, it cannot replace the deep, meaningful connections that educators build with their students. In my role, I see firsthand how critical it is for teachers to understand and respond to the unique needs of every student … something AI simply cannot do. It's the relationships we build, the empathy we show, and the adaptability we bring that makes the difference in student success. These human qualities are essential to fostering a positive learning environment, and they help shape not only academic growth but also social-emotional development. AI tools can certainly support teachers, and I’m all for finding ways to use technology to enhance learning. But let’s not forget that the heart of education is the human connection, which is the one thing AI can’t replicate. #Education #AI #Teaching #HumanConnection #Leadership #EdTech #TeachersMatter
Principal - Walford Anglican School for Girls | PhD | GAICD | Educator | Author | Podcaster | Speaker
🗞️ In today’s The West Australian paper you’ll find this piece by me on education in 2025. Parents and teachers are deeply considering technologies and their impacts on young people. Schools are increasingly personalising education experiences. At Walford Anglican School for Girls we develop bespoke pathways to support each student to achieve her best, her way. Schools are also intentionally fostering opportunities for meaningful human connection. I talk here about schools as environments of high care and high presence that nurture community and wellbeing. The final lines are: “The most precious gift we give someone in 2025 is likely to be being truly present with them in ways that allow them to be seen, heard and known. As we embrace and explore innovative technologies and individual paths, let's not forget that it is our relationships and connections that bind, nourish and uplift us.” #schools #education #educationtrends #teaching #education2025 #genai #genalpha #genbeta

Education plays a potent role in changing lives; it is vital regardless of one’s age, gender, or social class. All children deserve the precious gift of education, but how can we stop girls from being excluded or married off? Through our Manyatta Homeschooling Program, targeting girls aged 15-25, we aim to improve literacy in ASAL regions by ensuring out-of-school girls access basic reading, writing, and math skills. Within a year, 448 out-of-school girls have been reached by the program with 17 girls transitioning to formal education, breaking cultural barriers and increasing literacy amongst girls and young women in Samburu. Our next step is to expand this initiative, reaching more out-of-school girls, providing them with the resources and skills they need to thrive. We will continue to focus on foundational education, entrepreneurship skills, leadership training, and community engagement to ensure sustainable impact. #EmpowerGirls #GirlsEducation #manyattahomeschooling
