"Maybe skip the dog and the story". Pocotein: A simple portmanteau of Poco, my former shelter dog (passed away), and protein. When I first pitched the concept to a potential business partner at the idea stage of my venture I mentioned specifically that one of the major goals are: Raise awareness about the dark side of the pet trade/industry in Japan For this purpose I wanted Poco on the ice cream packaging. That didn't go well with the other guy, who absolutely loved the concept (and is now actively trying to make his own protein ice cream brand) but didn't like the branding and thought it wasn't going to go down well with the consumers. I had to stay true to what I believed in and how I was going to run my company so we parted ways. That was in May 2022. Fast forward to July 2024 and I'm in a meeting that had the potential to change my life forever. The chief buyer for LIFE supermaket is sitting across from me and tastes the ice cream. He takes a look at the package and asks: Is this a dog? I had no plans to bring up Pocos story but my gut feeling told me to go with it and just spill it out. - "Yes, it was a shelter dog I took care of a couple of years back. She was used as a breeder dog and basically only gave birth to pups for money and profit. When she could no longer do it, she was thrown away. My dream is to raise awareness about things like this and like it is in Sweden, ban pet shops. That's why I started this company." The same day I get an email from the buyer who wrote that he really liked my passion and that he's looking forward to helping me out on my journey by selling Pocotein in all Life stores in Kansai. I had an opportunity to supercharge my journey at the idea stage and make quick progress but I decided to stick to what I believed in. Never trade your ideals, dreams and beliefs for potential (big) money if it doesn't feel right to you. #pocotein #icecream

Enji’s dogfooding and Kaizen I’m a strong believer in dogfooding (https://lnkd.in/d2NqNiG6). It’s a pretty obvious thing to do–use the product you developed to understand it as a user. I remember when we developed GoDee (https://godee.vn/en), I moved to Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) to ride our buses and use the system we created. I regularly brought other developers to the city to also experience rides. I ask my Mad Devs LLC employees to use Enji.ai as often as possible to resolve production tasks. If we don’t do it every day, we can’t improve the product. If you don’t eat your own dogfood, you won’t experience a client’s pain, and your product will just be a copy of your own hallucinations. When you’re dogfooding, it’s good to come up with use cases through the Kaizen method that will let you improve the product in small ways that aren’t initially obvious (https://lnkd.in/dQKa89DD). These small ways are what create the whole picture. One small task on the wording, one for a new link, to change fields, to even out a page, and others from each Mad Devs employee will lead to a bit better product in a month and an absolutely better one in a year. Let me repeat this: I understand kaizen to be more than just a replacement for brainstorming interfaces, but a form of “cleaning up your desk,” when you can fix something obvious and make your life easier. I make myself use the product no matter how gnarly it is. Recently, I was looking for ways to evaluate the performance of one particular employee with Enji. That led me to compare GitHub accounts with users, and I was very upset with the interface. So, I generated small tasks like “Remove this from the top” and “Add this there.” By no means was this a solution to the problem, but it was something. That’s Kaizen.

**Learning and Growing with Meatington** Starting Meatington was a thrilling experience for our family. My brother, his wife, his daughter, and I were filled with enthusiasm and excitement as we embarked on this new venture. However, as with any new business, we encountered several unexpected challenges along the way. In our eagerness to get things rolling, we realized the importance of timing and sequencing in business operations. For instance, understanding the market needs and solidifying our product before assembling a dedicated sales and marketing team proved crucial. We also discovered the significance of managing expenses carefully, especially during the initial setup phase. This taught us valuable lessons about strategic planning and resource allocation. Additionally, navigating the market's perception of frozen foods required us to focus on educating consumers about the benefits of our products. We leveraged social media to highlight how frozen food can be as healthy, if not healthier, than fresh options. We also participated in fairs like Aahaar, where we engaged with the audience and the press, discussing the benefits of frozen snacks. These experiences have been invaluable learning opportunities, shaping Meatington into the brand it is today. They reinforced the importance of flexibility, continuous learning, and teamwork.
