It was incredible at the weekend to see Andrew ‘Beef’ Johnston finish 3rd in the Omega European Masters on the DP World Tour at the stunning Crans-Montana golf course in Switzerland.
The reason it was incredible was because Beef has had to overcome potentially career ending injuries to keep coming back. Not just coming back but coming back to be on the verge of winning again. Is there anything sweeter than overcoming adversity and proving to yourself and others that you could come back and be successful, sometimes even more successful than you were before.
It’s dosent have to be injury, it could be any set back in your career. It’s easy to give up when it’s hard, the hard part it to keep turning up, the hard part is to keep being 1% better than you were yesterday and achieving things no one thought you were capable of. Sometimes the goal isn't to be the best, it's to be better than yesterday, even if it’s 1% better.
The hard times are where you learn more about yourself, the hard days are the most important ones. It's easy to turn up when you feel good, but it's crucial to show up when you don't feel like it, even if you do less than you hope, your still doing more than if you did nothing at all. Turning up when it’s hard reaffirms your identity. It's about becoming the type of person you want to be.
Today, Turn up, Do your best, with what you have, right now and everytime, even when no one is watching and sooner or later your potential ability will frighten you.
To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest Accomplishment. -RALPH WALDO EMERSON
