Wood has been awarded a $40mn #engineering design contract by Kuraray to build a new #sustainable packaging production plant in #Singapore. Addressing the market shift towards more #environmentally friendly food #packaging materials, the new plant will produce EVAL™, Kuraray’s #ethylene #vinyl #alcohol (EVOH) #copolymer. EVAL is widely used in food packaging to prevent oxygen from spoiling the contents and unlike other competing products is fully #recyclable using traditional methods. Following the successful completion of a front-end engineering and #design (#FEED) study, Wood will deliver engineering, procurement and construction management (#EPCM) services for the new plant located on #Jurong Island. In addition, Wood will carry out modifications to an existing poly-vinyl alcohol (#PVA) facility adjacent to the new plant, enabling Kuraray to streamline the production and recovery process of #aceticacid, a critical component of the new EVAL plant. The company reports - https://lnkd.in/dB-9eHUr In March 2024, Kuraray decided to invest in an EVAL production plant in its 100pc subsidiary in Singapore, Kuraray Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd. The plant will have a capacity of 18 kt/yr but the front-end process will be constructed with a capacity of 36 kt/yr with a view of future #expansion. Start of operations is expected in the end of 2026. #Investment amount is $410mn. Earlier, in August 2023, Kuraray announced a planned increase of its globally in-demand EVAL production capacity in its bases of operation in the United States (Kuraray America, Inc.) and Europe (Kuraray Europe GmbH). A total of 5 kt/yr will be added to the capacity of U.S., and European bases of operation in 2024, with another 5 kt/yr to be added in 2026. This 10-kt/yr total capacity increase will bring global production capacity from the present 103 kt/yr to 113 kt/yr.
