Recently, our own Kimber Cencelewski took advantage of our Valenz Communities Connect (VCC) volunteer program in support of Olive Elementary, where she assisted with their school-wide field day. Vālenz® Health is proud to offer the VCC program to all employees, allowing for dedicated time off to give back to our communities.

The 𝙇𝙚𝙖𝙣 𝙤𝙣 𝙈𝙚 theme reflects a movement away from family surveillance toward a culture of support that values and uplifts people raising children. The need for caregivers to be supported is universal. Systems, communities, and individuals can proactively respond to strengthen families by building protective factors and being a resource for caregivers to lean on.

SAL Community Services' President & CEO, Marcy Mendenhall, shared about the Illinois Department of Early Childhood Act (IL HB5451) which would consolidate Illinois early childhood services into a single state agency as a means to enhance coordination, efficiency, and effectiveness.
Learn more about the importance of this new state level alignment and the impact it will have on local families as we strive to create equitable access to child care in our region.

"The first thing we ask is 'what's going on?'" - Crystal E. Brown-Garrant
We understand that no two communities are the same, so instead of delivering one-size-fits-all solutions, we start by listening—gathering insights and understanding what works best to protect our kids.
This method ensures that our 'Know The Signs' programs, like 'Start With Hello' and 'Say Something' are tailored to create lasting, meaningful impact in preventing violence and fostering stronger connections.
Well said Jim Davnie and Kent Pekel. With a focus on solutions, Family Engagement, Positive School Climate/Multi-tiered Systems of support, Data-Driven Early Warning Systems, Increased Caring Adults and Mentors, we are addressing the root causes instead of solely placing the blame on the student and/or their families.
According to the MN Student Survey data, 25% of 11th grade students, 28% of 9th grade students, 32% of 8th grade students, and 54% of 5th grade students in MN say "adults in my community care quite a bit/very much about me". Flip the language and say out loud the % of students who feel adults don't care about them.
This is why our community efforts to listen to and come alongside our young people is so important. Our young folks need multiple layers of support and this isn't only the school's responsibility.
We continue our efforts to open a youth center in our small rural community for this very reason; our youth have told us what they need!
