The Grimsby Together conversation about the future of the town involved 1,100 people, voting over 50,000 times and submitting 790 suggestions. It was amazing to see the range of ideas and the ambition people have for the town. Demos is currently analysing the conversation and writing a report on the future people want. We will share that with you all as soon as we can. We have had an early look at some initial analysis so that we can push forward the work and practically partner with funders to understand how money can come together and back the town to build the future it wants. Recognising that this is not the final answer we wanted to share what we have seen so far – as we are driving this change together. There is an ambition for Grimsby to be the best place in the country to live - people thriving, feeling safe, proud of their hometown and young people wanting to stay. “Grimbarians are still proud of home and people all over the world have heard great things about the town” Practically people talked about the ambitions for a town where in 10 years’ time: - Opportunity and education is available for all - “Adults who want to retrain or upskill have a greater choice of educational options outside of normal working hours” - There is a supportive welcoming community – “People come to Grimsby to learn how to build a community and transform a place” - People have secure homes and lives - “We've changed our approach to community housing to end sticking plaster solutions and fix defunct housing stock.” - People are connected and can get about – both within the town and connect to the rest of the country “Transport connections to the rest of the country are drastically improved, both road and rail; providing economic & social benefits” - A beautiful built environment – “The historic and architecturally rich buildings in the town have be preserved, restored and maintained, not left to rot or burnt down” - Green economy that works for the town - “Offshore wind and renewable energy benefits local businesses and employs lots of local people in good jobs” - Connected to nature and the unique geography - “The Freshney River is a beautiful, clean home for wildlife and Grimbarians in the centre of our town” - Arts and culture create connection, energy and identity - “Grimsby is known as a cultural centre & people travel from outside the area to view its public art, visit galleries & participate in events” There is more to come in the Demos report and we wanted to share with you what we are learning as we go. Later today we start bringing a broad range of funders into the conversation with people in the town to think through how the money could come together to support the creation of this vision.

With an estimated 6-9 month timeline to completion, North Bend’s downtown will soon transform into a bustling center of creativity and connection. Town of Islip Seeks Public Input The Town of Islip has launched a special website to gather public input for the town’s first reboot of its master plan in more than 40 years, Newsday reports. Town officials have touted public input from Islip’s more than 330,000 residents as key to the new long term policy plan, which will provide a road map for future development for at least the next 20 years. “We’re taking the public engagement process of it very seriously,” Supervisor Angie Carpenter told the outlet. “We're going to be deliberate in the process and make sure everyone has an opportunity” to participate. According to the outlet, Islip civic leaders believe a new comprehensive plan is long overdue, expressing fears of overdevelopment as developers pour billions into projects across town, including the Midway Crossing development. That project alone will add a convention center, 300-room hotel, health sciences facilities and a new air terminal at Long Island MacArthur Airport with a walkway to Ronkonkoma’s Long Island Rail Road station. Other major developments include the ongoing expansion of publicly owned Jake’s 58 casino and a proposal to build 890 housing units at the former Island Hills golf course in Sayville, a project that has met significant opposition from town residents. David Chan, president of the Oakdale Civic Association, told Newsday the new plan should include a focus on revitalizing businesses in Oakdale and revamping the hamlet’s sewer system. Overdevelopment is also “a huge fear amongst the community,” Mr. Chan said, adding that the Island Hills proposal “hangs over our heads like a black cloud.” Town residents can share input through an online survey, an idea wall and map on the town’s comprehensive plan website, TOI360.com. Islip Town last adopted a master plan in 1979. The new plan will outline community goals centered around key themes such as housing, sustainability and resilience, economic development and public services, the outlet summarizes. The town will also host public meeting to maximize input. The survey, the idea wall and the map will remain open through the end of the year. The DMCYC will serve a broad range of community functions, with dedicated spaces, seamlessly integrating Shire services and community initiatives. The 1,802sqm centre is set to deliver spaces for youth, digital technology and innovation, community events, a library and learning centre, visitor and community servicing. Shire President Doug Kitchen said, “Council is pleased to see the DMCYC progressing with a trusted local builder. Working with a Southwest-based company ensures local economic benefits and a high-quality outcome that will meet our community’s needs for years to come.” Yesterday, Shire President Doug Kitchen and CEO Gordon MacMile were joined by Hon Don Punch MLA and Derek Wilkes from Perkins Builders for the official Sod Turning. The project has a projected total of $13,860,800, marking a significant step toward delivering a vital community hub for Dalyellup, the district and wider region. Earlier this year, the project received a $1 million boost, on top of previously invested $8 million, by the State Government through the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, and $1.5 million from LotteryWest. Kicking off 2025 with some fantastic news, we are delighted to announce Market Curators Ltd have been appointed by Newark & Sherwood Council to work on Newark Royal Market and Newark Market Place as part of exciting plans to transform Newark Market Place into the vibrant heart of the town centre. Market Curators Ltd will be looking to create a market and events programme which acts as catalyst for wider town centre regeneration by producing an offering which appeals to the local community, drives town centre footfall and creating a space which is multi-functional. This is part of a wider brief to create impactful public realm regeneration for Newark Town Centre.
