Want to make someone's Friday? If you've got an open job req, skip the process today and personally spend some time looking for people who you think could be a great fit for it. And, without them even knowing your job exists or applying to it, reach out to them and have a conversation about them and the job. Your intuition about what YOU need as a hiring manager far outweighs the ability of any application process to decide it for you (although, I agree they're needed). I think this is especially a great idea if you notice someone (say even someone like me) who might be currently looking for a tech job but you think they could potentially help you solve some serious problems you're having in an operations context using their tech skills. If you're having trouble hiring for a technical role, it's probably your fault. Let me explain... There are two reasons why you haven't sent an offer: 1. You don't know what you need. If you haven't defined your "must-haves" are for the role, you'll go back and forth on candidates, never finding "the one". Because you don't even know what you're looking for. 2. You and the other decision makers aren't aligned on on your "must-haves".
