Too many nonprofits take the wrong approach with their risk management strategy. Sometimes I wish I could just wrap my young kids in bubble wrap and send them on their way. But that wouldn't work. Neither does a set-it-and-forget-it approach like this work for nonprofits risk management. Yet so many nonprofits use this risk management strategy. They: -Buy the insurance -Adopt a policy -Schedule a training And that's it. Instead, nonprofits need an ongoing risk management strategy. Just like I need to be consistently checking on my young kids, nonprofits need to be consistently evaluating and taking action to mitigate their risk. -Ensure proper maintenance and updates to your facilities -Re-evaluate your programs and policies -Follow up regularly on that training Consistent evaluation and redirection is what it takes to parent young kids and also to manage risk in a nonprofit. __________ Make sure your nonprofit risk management strategy will set you up for future success.
