3moI made the following comment earlier in a related post. But it is important enough to make again since this post is specifically from Jacob’s company, Valvoline. Thank you to Valvoline for openly acknowledging Jacob’s recognition. When an individual receives open recognition by their industry, their company should openly and publicly express their appreciation and recognition as well. When companies do this, it is evidence that that company does in fact believe that science and technology (and those who work in those areas) are important to their business. When companies steadfastly refuse to do so, it is ironclad proof that they do not appreciate science and technology or those who work in such areas. Such companies may plaster statements on their websites and literature about how they value their people in general and their R&D personnel in particular. They may regurgitate such statements to their employees in various company communications. But actions (and inactions) speak louder than words. I heard Jacob’s paper last year. He deserved this recognition, and I am happy that Valvoline is not shy about saying so too! Sadly, not every company cares about such recognition.
