This week, we were super interested to see that Taylor Swift has surpassed even her own crazy sales record with her 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department. With sales of the kind that occurred in the pre-streaming, physical music era, Swift’s latest LP secured a huge UK opening of 270,091 units, according to the Official Charts Company. It is her 12th No.1 album and her biggest opening to date; she also achieved the albums and singles chart double for the third time. The staggering volume of sales is underlined by the fact that The Tortured Poets Department has actually outsold the rest of the combined Top 75 albums by around 3,900 units. The Tortured Poets Department has the biggest weekly sales since March 2017, when Ed Sheeran’s Divide achieved consumption of 303,520 in its second week at the summit. Swift’s album beat the opening for Adele’s 30 (261,856) in November 2021. For an international artist, it’s the biggest opening week in the UK since Scissor Sisters’ Ta-Dah, which moved 288,167 on debut in 2006. 🎵 500 Albums, 6 Months, 1 Epic Journey: What I Learned Listening to the "Greatest Albums of All Time" 🤔 Ever wonder what it's like to dive deep into music history? 👀 I just spent 6 months listening to Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums. Here's what I discovered: 1. The 60s-70s were a creative explosion From '65-'75, boundaries were pushed and genres were born. Albums became art, not just collections of singles. 2. Female artists are criminally underrated I found myself drawn to voices like Aretha, Joni, and Fiona Apple. We need more women on these lists! 3. Perfect album length = 35-45 minutes Anything longer needs to justify its runtime. Few double albums truly do (looking at you, "The Wall"). 4. Context is key, but personal connection matters most Historical importance is cool, but the albums that hit you in the feels are the real MVPs. 5. There's no such thing as "greatest" Music is subjective. Your favorite album is the greatest album. Period. 💬 What album changed YOUR life? Breaking Down My Favourite Albums of 2024: Billie Eilish’s Hit Me Hard and Soft 🎧✨ 2024 has been a landmark year for music. Releases from Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Sabrina Carpenter, Charli XCX, and more. Starting with Billie Eilish’s third studio album, Hit Me Hard and Soft, has stood out as one of the most personal and innovative works this year. This isn’t just an album; it’s a fully immersive experience. Exploring themes like body image, the dark side of fame, heartbreak, and manipulation, Billie’s lyricism is raw yet universal, allowing listeners to reflect on their own journeys. Take "Skinny," for example, where she confronts society’s obsession with weight and the harmful assumption that losing weight equals happiness. Lyrics like "People say I look happy Just because I got skinny But the old me is still me and maybe the real me And I think she's pretty" these lyrics cut deep, exposing the pressures of image and identity. Then there’s "Chihiro," a five-minute odyssey in a world dominated by quick, trend-driven tracks. The cinematic production builds slowly, layering haunting melodies with intricate patterns that feel almost spiritual. It’s the kind of track you get lost in. Hit Me Hard and Soft isn’t just music—it’s a testament to Billie’s growth as an artist and her refusal to conform. Nominated for Album of the Year at the Grammys, it’s ethereal, emotional, and unforgettable What’s your favourite track from this album? Let’s talk. #BillieEilish #NewMusic2024 #AlbumOfTheYear #Grammys2024 #MusicReview #PopMusic #IndieMusic #MusicLovers #MusicIsLife #NowPlaying #TrendingMusic #SongOfTheYear #HitMeHardAndSoft #BillieFans #MusicProduction #Lyricism #EmotionalMusic #InnovativeSound #MusicTrends #ListeningSession

🎵 The Ultimate Album Journey: 500 Greatest Albums in 6 Months 📊 Diving into the world of music history, one album at a time: - 500 albums listened to - 425 hours of music (that's 17.7 days!) - 6,801 tracks played - 197 days to complete (2.53 albums per day on average) - 32,500 words written across 84 updates 🤯 Mind-blowing stats, right? But why embark on this musical odyssey? Well, as the legendary George Mallory said about climbing Everest: "Because it's there." (Though between you and me, I'd argue this project was more challenging than scaling a mountain. At least Everest doesn't make you listen to 5 hours of Merle Haggard! 😅) 🎧 Key takeaways from my 500-album deep dive: 1. Genre evolution: Traced the roots of soul, hip-hop, and how blues influenced everything from country to rock'n'roll. 2. The golden decade: 1965-1975 saw an explosion of creativity and boundary-pushing in music. 3. Musical milestones: Witnessed how albums like The Beatles' "Rubber Soul" inspired the Beach Boys' "Pet Sounds", which in turn influenced "Revolver" and "Sgt. Pepper's". 4. Genre-defining moments: From Marvin Gaye revolutionizing soul to the birth of punk as a rebellion against popular music. 5. Personal discoveries: Found a new appreciation for female artists like Fiona Apple, Aretha Franklin, and Joni Mitchell. 6. The perfect album length: 35-45 minutes (with a few notable exceptions). 7. Hip-hop hurdles: Many albums in the genre suffer from being too long and packed with unnecessary skits. 🎶 The ultimate lesson? Music's greatness is subjective. Your favorite album is the greatest album of all time – for you. 💭 Final thoughts: This project started as a personal challenge but became a labor of love. I miss it already and can't wait to see where my musical journey takes me next! What about you? Ever tackled a massive music project? What albums would make your personal "greatest of all time" list? This is a great example of an Independent artist like Mach Hommy achieving something remarkable that even mainstream artists like 2 Chainz and Timbaland, who sold over 18 million copies, were surprised and impressed. They admitted they had never seen anything like it before. Mach Hommy is an American rapper of Haitian descent. He is known for his elusive nature and his obscure music. He's also known for selling limited vinyl copies of his albums for prices ranging from $1000 to $5000 and they always sell out. The specific album mentioned in the video sold for $5000, and only 30 copies were made, all of which sold out. New Post: Looking Ahead: A Release Calendar of Upcoming Albums in 2024 - https://lnkd.in/gYvMJ8df - 2023 may have featured massive releases from artists such as Taylor Swift (Taylor’s Versions of Speak Now and 1989), Drake (For All the Dogs and its Scary Hours edition), Bad Bunny (Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana), Nicki Minaj (Pink Friday 2), Morgan Wallen (One Thing at a Time) and many others, but 2024 is shaping up to be a strong year as well. Albums scheduled for release include Dua Lipa’s Radical Optimism, and more from Lenny Kravitz, to Sheryl Crow and many others. Among them as well is the Ye (formerly known as Kanye West) and Ty Dolla $ign’s three-volume collab Vultures. Plus, who can forget some of the biggest album announcements so far this year, including Swift’s big reveal? The pop superstar announced her 11th studio set, The Tortured Poets Department, while accepting the best pop vocal album Grammy for Midnights — her lucky No. 13 Grammy at that! — would arrive April 19. But she wasn’t the only superstar to take advantage of a big stage to announce a new project. Beyoncé revealed during her Verizon Super Bowl 2024 ad that new music was coming, then made her album announcement and dropped two singles within minutes. Cowboy Carter eventually made its big debut March 29. Though projects are announced, they’re sometimes delayed for various reasons (Ye and Ty’s Vultures Vols. 2 and 3, for example, though Vultures 2 finally arrived Aug. 3, well after its expected March release), or even announced just days in advance, so keeping track of when artists’ albums are coming can be difficult. To make it easier for fans, we’ve compiled this release calendar so the biggest and most anticipated releases won’t be missed when release dates come and go. The list is organized chronologically by month and week, and includes genres from pop, hip-hop, rock, K-pop, Latin, country and beyond. Keep reading for our running calendar of the major album releases coming in 2024. - #news #business #world #jobs #school #passion
