****Can London Be the Next Hollywood?**** Hey UK! Maybe we get back to serious work! As Los Angeles grapples with a major production decline—recent figures showing shoot days are at historically low levels, down nearly 50% in some categories compared to their five-year averages—the entertainment industry is rapidly shifting. In 2024 alone, LA’s shoot days for TV dramas have plummeted to just 12 days in Q2, compared to 1,198 days in the same period two years ago. This isn’t just a temporary disruption; it’s a fundamental realignment. And while LA’s production environment faces challenges, London is positioning itself as a rising contender. The UK’s newly announced 40% tax credit for high-end TV and film production couldn’t have come at a better time. As LA struggles to maintain its dominance, London—and the broader UK—now offers a much more attractive financial incentive. Studios are already looking globally, asking: “Where can we stretch our budgets further while maintaining quality?” With tax credits this strong, it’s no wonder productions are eyeing London. Los Angeles’s production downturn, which impacts below-the-line crew (those who can’t easily relocate for work) hardest, highlights the importance of competitive incentives. In contrast, London offers an experienced workforce, a rich variety of locations, and world-class post-production facilities. Add to that the enhanced tax credit and it’s easy to see why London could become the next global production hub. Recent data shows that in Q3 2024, feature film shoot days in LA were down by 48% compared to their five-year average, and TV comedy and drama categories have seen similar declines. Meanwhile, the UK film industry is thriving, bolstered by new tax incentives that position London as a highly competitive destination for major international projects. London is ready to take on this opportunity, leveraging its deep talent pool and state-of-the-art infrastructure to cater to global filmmakers. With strategic vision and aggressive incentives, London could well be the new hub for film and TV production. Can London become the next LA? The data suggests it’s already on its way. https://lnkd.in/dkKbQkwq #FilmIndustry #Production #FilmIncentives #London #LA #EntertainmentIndustry #TaxCredits #InnovationInFilm

The New Zealand Film Commission's upcoming business delegation, KIA ORA LA, will soon head to Los Angeles - a city at the centre of the entertainment industry. This strategic visit comes at a time when competition for major film projects is more intense than ever, and the political climate in the United States is shifting. We need to be visibly part of the conversation when it comes to the best places to shoot, produce and post-produce film and television and stay top of mind for global filmmakers like Netflix, Amazon, Apple, Paramount and Disney. The stakes are high! Countries like Australia, the UK, and Ireland already have a permanent presence in Los Angeles and compete directly with us for high-value productions. KIA ORA LA enables 30 private sector businesspeople - who depend on attracting offshore productions to sustain their mahi - to make the right connections. The Commission's commitment to the film industry and private sector growth is evident - we’re here to build partnerships that keep our people at the forefront. #NZFilmIndustry #FilmProduction #ScreenIndustry #EconomicGrowth

Nigeria's film industry has made significant strides in recent years with films grossing high numbers and streaming globally, yet there's always room for improvement. Here are a few suggestions to elevate the industry even further: Investment in Infrastructure: Building state-of-the-art studios and production facilities can enhance the quality of films produced. This investment also includes upgrading technical equipment to international standards. Training and Development: Continuous education and training programs for filmmakers, actors, directors, and crew members can refine their skills and keep them updated with the latest industry trends and techniques. Storytelling and Script Development: Focusing on original and compelling storytelling can set Nollywood apart on the global stage Financing For Filmmakers: Many big studios have access to finance, but not a lot of young filmmakers have this access. There is a need for more equitable distribution of finance for young filmmakers. How do you think we can further elevate the Nigerian Film Industry?

Is my film profitable? It always is. Provided.... you follow some basic principles and discipline... An excellent and informative insight from Sooraj Khanna for all young and aspiring filmmakers. #independentfilmmakers #shortfilms #OTT #filmmakers #films
Is Cinema Profitable? Yes, cinema can be highly profitable, but it depends on several factors, including the person behind the project, the production approach, and financial planning. While no one sets out to make a bad film, the profitability of a movie hinges on its budget and the maker’s strategic decisions. A film itself never fails—it’s often the budget or planning that does. If you have strong financial and people management skills, you can avoid losses in the business of cinema. Every project has a market value, and the key is to prepare your budget 25-35% below that value. This way, even if the film underperforms, you won’t face significant financial loss. One of the biggest pitfalls in the industry is relying on the wrong executives or line producers, which can drain a substantial part of your budget. To thrive in this business, you must understand its core aspects, stay deeply involved in the filmmaking process, and learn the nuances of budgeting and market positioning. Cinema is a wonderful and rewarding business when approached practically and with the right team. People incur huge losses primarily due to unpractical budgets and poorly chosen collaborators. Choosing your people wisely and ensuring financial discipline are the foundations of success in this industry. #cinema #businessofcinema #bollywood #filmmakers #soorajkhanna #producer
