The largest wood-based urban building project in the world, Stockholm Wood City, was unveiled the past year. 🌳 The project is anticipated to start construction in 2025, with the first structures anticipated to be finished in 2027. 🏗️ At 250,000 square meters, the biggest wood-building project in the world is now under construction. Given that developed structures account for a sizable 40% of global CO2 emissions, the project serves as a sustainable model for the real estate industry. 🌍 In addition, Stockholm Wood City is expected to mark a revolution in environmentally friendly building practices and city design. 🏡 It seeks to create a lively and dynamic urban atmosphere by fusing houses, businesses, restaurants, and retail areas. 🍽️🛍️ There are several advantages that wooden constructions offer to the environment, human health, and general well-being. 🌱 Several studies have demonstrated the enhanced air quality, reduced stress and increased productivity, and carbon dioxide storage properties of timber constructions. Starting in April 2022, a significant urban reconfiguration was initiated in Barcelona with the installation of the Green Axes. The aim of this project was to introduce more than 400 trees and 1000 new pieces of furniture across the streets involved. By October 2023, the majority of the interventions were finished, with an investment of over 50 million euros reported. This investment helped to create new green spaces, install public furniture, lighting, signage, and restructure pavements. At Noumena, we are working diligently to understand and evaluate the impact of the Green Axes project. We are measuring parameters of spatial occupancy, vehicular traffic, and micromobility usage to determine how this new urban model is performing in comparison to its previous configuration. Our focus is on assessing the changes in traffic patterns and congestion levels. We also aim to determine how much of the traffic that used to travel on these streets is now diverging to the adjacent streets and how it affects the overall traffic flow. Redevco not only shows how historic buildings can be transformed into innovative multi-functional destinations, but, in the case of Boulevard Haussmann also how space can be showcased even during a redevelopment. “Our ambition is to transform each asset into an iconic place, custom-designed and tailor made, integrated perfectly into its urban environment,” says thierry cahierre “We have a big constraint in the redevelopment due to the urbanistic laws, we cannot reduce or create any retail square meters,” says Cécile Pouzadoux. “It would have been easier to equip the second floor with offices, as attracting consumers to the second floor is difficult. But this constraint motivates us to find creative solutions.” “Even though we are only redeveloping the retail part, we have to think about the entire building, which is already a mixed-use building,” adds Vanessa MEDIONI “This is one of the biggest learnings of our projects Promenade Sainte-Catherine in Bordeaux and Le 31 Lille.” To make use of the full potential of the building, REDEVCO France introduced the concept “Stories, by Redevco ! ✨” in the Boulevard Haussmann asset. For their new headquarters, JEA had a clear vision: ➡️ Remain situated on the north side of the river in support of the downtown core ➡️ Maintain proximity to transportation and downtown amenities ➡️ Provide enhanced capacity in turn providing improved efficiency Collaboration between the design, construction, and client stakeholder teams helped to establish clear objectives, define budgetary constraints, and identify essential sustainability features. Drawing upon the collective expertise of the project team, strategic decisions were made to significantly reduce the building's energy consumption, ensuring optimal comfort, humidity control, and future adaptability. The new headquarters is certified LEED Gold and is seeking WELL certification, aiming to set a new sustainability standard in Jacksonville. To support JEA's ‘work from anywhere’ mentality, the team wasted no time incorporating the fresh, hybrid, ‘no address’ workspaces into the design. The dynamic design is aimed to appeal to JEA’s multi-generational workforce and advance the effort to retain and recruit quality employees. The design embodies a holistic approach. Ever since I started working at Redevco - now 11 years ago already! - I walked through cities with different eyes, always looking up, beyond the shop windows, to take in the beauty of these magnificent, buildings that we have in Europe. To this day it amazes me how many stunning buildings we manage on behalf of our clients. And it also makes me proud to see our teams skillfully and carefully making them better, fit to the current consumer needs, in a sustainable manner, without destroying the character of what often are listed, historic monuments. So that these edifices are future-proof, start their new chapters in their existence and can last generations again. Transforming Aurora: Modernizing Amsterdam's Iconic Landmark for a Sustainable Future The renovation project of the Aurora building at the corner of Stadhouderskade and Overtoom in Amsterdam is a collaboration between KAAN Architecten, IMd Raadgevende Ingenieurs, DGMR, and SkaaL, commissioned by BEING. The aim is to transform this iconic structure into a modern, sustainable office space while preserving its historical significance. The building is one of Amsterdam's first modernist landmarks, originally designed for the Aurora Life Insurance Company by the renowned Dutch architect Piet Zanstra in the 1960s. The renovation project seeks to modernise the building while respecting its unique features, such as the elegant curvature in the facade that mirrors the curve of the street corner. The renovation's key elements include adding a new extension with an atrium, completed with a new back facade that integrates extensive greenery. These additions will create high-quality work and meeting spaces with a green character. Sustainability is a central focus of the project, which aims to achieve a BREEAM certification. Measures such as increased transparency, improved insulation, and incorporation of green spaces contribute to a comfortable and healthy living environment, addressing noise, heat stress, and air pollution. The Aurora building will feature a commercial plinth with spacious office floors above, making it an ideal location for top national and international companies. Its proximity to Amsterdam's city centre and accessibility further enhance its appeal to high-end office tenants.
