Are you ready to level up your laboratory skills? This message is for the people who are trying to get the job and the people who are working in the field. First and foremost, it's important to have a strong foundation in science and understand the principles behind the experiments you're conducting. And basic knowledge of the lab test. Next, pay attention to lab procedures. As a laboratory technician, you'll be working with precise measurements and delicate and complex equipment. One wrong move could throw off an entire lab result, so be sure to double-check your work and stay focused at all times. Trust me, I've learned this the hard way, and I have had a bad experience with it. But it's not just about technical skills; communication is also crucial. Whether you're collaborating with colleagues or presenting your findings, being able to articulate your thoughts clearly and effectively is essential. Plus, building strong relationships with your team can lead to better understanding and better outcomes. So stay focused and keep working. Best of luck #Laboratory Technician

What does a Laboratory Technician do? The specific tasks of a Laboratory Technician can vary greatly depending on the laboratory they’re based in and the types of scientific work that is carried out there. Generally, though, a Laboratory Technician will conduct the routine tasks required within the laboratory, in support of the Laboratory Scientists. All work must be carried out in strict accordance with both internal protocols and external regulations. As examples, tasks may include: ~Prepare and carry out diagnostic laboratory tests. ~Operate and maintain standard laboratory equipment such as centrifuges, titrators, pipetting machines and pH meters. ~Take precise and accurate notes of experiments and their results and sometimes interpret or present those results to senior colleagues. ~Prepare specimens and samples. ~Help develop new products. ~Supervise experiments as they run. ~Clean lab equipment and keep it in serviceable condition. ~Routine maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment. ~Ensure the laboratory is well-stocked and resourced and that everything is clearly and properly labelled. ~Mix compounds during the manufacturing process. ~Follow strict safety procedures and safety checks. ~Liaison with laboratory suppliers as required. #ScienceLaboratoryTechnologyStudent🧪🔬🧫

Medical Device/ IVD Quality Leader | Problem Solver | Strategic Planner | Team Mom | Creating Order From Chaos
I worked as a Medical Laboratory Technician for over ten years early in my career. I had the privilege of working alongside some of the nicest, smartest people I've ever met (and still keep in touch with!), and there was always one unifying frustration amongst us anytime we got a new piece of instrumentation: "Who the heck designed this thing?!?!?". It was very clear to us that a Lab Tech was not included in the design process, as many times routine tasks like changing out a reagent or emptying waste was cumbersome and time consuming. A small tweak here or there could have saved time for the end user if it had been considered during the design process. My previous role was focused on procedure and process development, and continuous improvement of in-use methods. While managing multiple projects where new procedures are created and old ones are streamlined, my intent is to always create the best possible process for the end user while ensuring all stakeholder's needs are considered. It's amazing how much buy-in you can get from a team when they are brought into the creation process, even when concessions have to be made to align with the needs of multiple stakeholders. What processes do you have in your organization that could use a refresh, and who are you going to for input? I hope that you will always start with the end-user in mind and capture their feedback during the process. They are the ones executing every day, and they know best any pain points that should be addressed!

Industrial Chemistry | QA/QC | ISO 17025:2017 | ISO 9001: 2015 | Lab Analyst | Lab Supervisor | Lab Technical Supervisor | Quality Assurance/Control Enthusiast
🔬 Embracing Change and Seeking Growth in the Laboratory ⁉ The Question: I was asked about my journey from a Lab Technician to a Senior Lab Technician, then to a Lab Supervisor, and then transitioning back to a Lab Technician role. 🚗 The Drive: My career has always been driven by the desire to contribute significantly to the projects I'm involved in and to actively participate in my teams. 📈 The Growth: This drive led me to take on more responsibilities and challenges, which resulted in my promotions to Senior Lab Technician and then Lab Supervisor. 🤔 💡 The Realization: I discovered that my passion is deeply rooted in the hands-on, technical aspects of laboratory work. I found myself longing for more direct involvement in projects and the chance to leverage my technical skills for the team’s success. Beyond just technical expertise, my lab work has also involved refining my presentation skills through active participation in projects and meetings. This combination of technical prowess and improved communication has amplified my contributions to the projects and teams. ⚖ The Decision: When the opportunity arose to return to a Lab Technician role for an exciting upcoming project, I made the strategic decision to embrace it, even if it meant moving to a different department or even a company. This decision was not a step back, but a strategic move to align my career with my passions. 👓 The Perspective: It's a testament to the fact that titles are not always reflective of the value one can bring to a team or a project. 🌟 The Future: I'm excited about the contributions I'll be making in my current role at QatarEnergy and look forward to the growth and learning opportunities it presents. ❗ Remember, it's not always about moving 'up', sometimes it's about moving 'right' for you. 😁 #CareerJourney #LaboratoryLife #GrowthMindset

A question I get from many new and emerging lab professionals. 𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗟𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘀? ➡️ Strong technical skills in areas such as laboratory instrument operation, specimen collection and processing, and proficiency in various laboratory techniques. ➡️ Attention to detail and accuracy are highly important, as is the ability to multitask and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced laboratory environment. ➡️ Good organizational and time management skills are sought after qualities, as laboratory professionals often handle multiple samples and tests simultaneously. ➡️ Effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate and communicate with other healthcare professionals since laboratory professionals work closely with doctors, nurses, and other allied health professionals. ➡️ Demonstrating adaptability, problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to continuing education and professional development are also attractive traits for employers. How committed are you to your own growth? #leadershiptidbits: Get good at the basics #careeradvancement #medicallaboratory #laboratorymedicine #leadershipdevelopment
