With several #Space-based #VHF #COMM entities already well advanced, including active #testing on the bench and with #satellites in #space, AIREON and its partners now proposing to add another #option suggests the #aviation industry is heading towards the feast stage of (potential) service provision. No doubt #airlines will be paying significant attention to the #costs associated with a #multitude of #SB-VHF COMM providers selling their particular solution to Air Navigation Service Providers ( #ANSPs ) - and others. Some of the #potential providers may also be able to provide Alternate #Position, #Navigation, and #Timing ( #APNT ). With ever-increasing #nation state #destructive #interference with #GPS #navigation and #safety of #flight, perhaps the entity that delivers space-based C, N and S in a unified package is the one that deserves the most #airline attention, and dollars? In the meantime, we need to define the #airline (as distinct from #ANSP) preferred Minimum Operational Network / Minimal Operating Network ( # MON ) since airlines #pay the piper. As an example, any airline paying user charges for #NDBs these days probably need to ask themselves if their #aircraft even have #ADF equipage. How many #VOR/DME and #ILS installations can be de-commissioned (globally) without impacting MON? From what I'm hearing (via a short 7 question survey), the answer is ... a lot. As always, never a dull moment in the #avionic domain.

The workstation shows Overwatch ASO software executing a maritime search mission with a L3Harris Technologies Wescam MX-10 gimbal. With ASO software controlling sensor operation, scan settings and AI-based data analysis, operators and decision makers are charged with evaluating real-time intelligence rather than searching for a needle in a haystack.
