Handball Goalkeeper Coach and EHF Expert

In handball goalkeeping, especially in video materials that you can find online - there seems to be a very strong belief that "the harder and the more complex the exercise looks like - the better it is". This is why I attempted to "overdo" things a little bit in this video on the topic of balance. Because a lot of exercises that are shown in online videos and in goalkeeper training as balance exercises are actually STABILITY exercises. Handball goalkeeper training is not (and it should not be) a "circus act"! The exercises don't have to look too complicated or impossible in order to be efficient. So if you want to work on balance with your goalkeepers, they don't have to ride a unicycle, or stand on a top of a stick, or wobble on a bosu ball.. If the head is fixated in one place while "balancing" on something wobbly - that's stability, not balance. In order to work on actual balance - the head has to be in movement. The vestibular system (VOR) controls balance. The vestibular system is one of the sensory systems that provides your brain with information about balance, motion, and the location of your head and body in relation to your surroundings. In order to truly work on balance - we need to move our head because that will activate the liquid (endolymph) in semi-circular canals. This fluid moves when you move your head, activating the tiny hairs lining the canal and communicating the direction and speed of movement to your brain. To activate your vestibular system, you need to fixate your eyes on the target in front of you, and add the head movements: turning the head to the left, to the right, up, down, tilting the head to the left (left ear towards left shoulder), and tilting the head to the right (right ear towards the right shoulder). It will be enough challenging to do these 6 head movements while standing on the stable surface - on the floor. But for the additional difficulty and challenge, you can do it on an unstable surface (such as bosu ball, or balance board, or similar). You are more than welcome! 😉😊😁 Now go and have a GREAT rest of your day! 😊 https://lnkd.in/g3UbVARm #balancetraining #braintraining #VORtraining #vestibular #vestibularsystem #balanceworkout #handballtraining #handballgoalkeeper #handballgoalkeepertraining
