#RoyalFarWest #RideforCountryKids https://lnkd.in/gnZDK_5f Last week, along with 49 other riders and 20 support crew, I completed the 3 day Royal Far West ride for country kids fundraising cycle in beautiful, hilly, NSW far south coast (Merimbula, Bega, Eden, Bermagui).  During the hours in the saddle, your mind wanders and observations follow, such as..... although we were all individual cyclists, it was so noticeable how we joined as a team. And how all of our motivations were so totally in-sync. We wanted to finish safely as a peloton, and not leave anyone behind. We wanted to fulfil our commitments to our sponsors and smash our fundraising targets. We were doing good things for ourselves (fitness, enjoying the ride, the scenery, the camaraderie, the feeling of accomplishment) and as a natural consequence - as a natural byproduct - we were doing good for others. Total alignment. The Business Leaders I work with often talk about goal alignment. About energising and congruent plans and objectives. Last week a bunch of cyclists of very varied ability who meet very infrequently, came together, and acheived this. Looking forward to the Rugby World Cup this weekend. The Springboks (South Africa) and All Blacks (New Zealand) are long time rivals who represent the spirit of sportsmanship and competition. Both teams are vying for a historic fourth World Cup title, with South Africa the defending champions. Both nations also share rugby as the de facto national sport, both nations have a deeply passionate fan base that stretches across boundaries as a source of national pride. In South Africa Bok Friday is a thing, many people wear various Bokke regalia and/or supporter shirts. Green and Gold runs deep here. In this spirit with a client (Trailwolf Cycles) we ran a light hearted post parodying Springbok prop and scrum legend Ox Nché posting a picture on social media. “Salads don’t win scrums” We did our own take on this with portraits of retail head, Vusi, who also comes from a rugby background. We used this to blend into a broader caption offering tips for riders while still tying into the shop’s various lifestyle options. It works because sport and outdoor recreation is heavily intertwined, plus there are a number of ex/current rugby players who use cycling to stay active and fit. Trust us on this, it will save you a lifetime of chafing drama. A decent quality pair of tights with padding will keep your derrière happy, allowing to focus on your riding. 2) This is for everyone and is a basic rule for any outdoor activity. Plan and share your ride. Have an idea of how long it will take you, how far and within your limits. Make sure you have enough water, at least 500ml for an hour and a small snack. If not in a group or with a partner. Let someone know your route and timing. Don’t ever be afraid to ask questions in store, Vusi and the team are always happy to guide you. Annually, the quaint town of Sonkajaervi in Finland transforms into the epicenter of a uniquely entertaining spectacle—the International Wife Carrying Championships. This captivating competition challenges husbands to navigate a 250-meter track, replete with a series of obstacles both on land and a 1-meter deep water pool. The rules dictate that participants can carry either their wives or neighbors, with a caveat that the wife must be at least 17 years old and weigh a minimum of 49 kilos. For lighter spouses, an additional rucksack is mandated. Carrying techniques vary, ranging from piggyback to over-the-shoulder, and the unconventional Estonian-style, where wives hang upside-down with legs around their husbands' shoulders and hold onto his waist. In this spirited race, participants are armed only with a helmet and a belt. Two couples start simultaneously, sprinting with all their might to conquer the course. The victorious couple is the one completing the challenge in the shortest time. Beyond the primary prize, accolades are also bestowed upon the most entertaining couple, the strongest carrier, and those adorned in the most captivating costumes.
