Meet Rick Lopez! He is the Senior Production Planner at Contract Production Services. CPS is your partner for fast-turn high-quality assembly and packing, customized to meet your unique needs. Check out what he has to say about his 9 years of experience!
🔹 How long have you been at VLR/CPS?
"9 Years (April 2014)."
🔹 What inspired you to work here?
"Previously, I had been working as a Project Manager and Estimator for an Excavating and Siteworks company. While I enjoyed doing it, I didn’t enjoy the long summer hours and missing out on the best days Minnesota has to offer. When the opportunity arose to apply with Contract Production Services, I took it. The idea was to tie in my career a little closer with my education along with avoiding a position in which I would be giving up summers outside of work. Seeing the positive contributions Contract Production Services makes to help VLR serve low and no vision clients was a major plus as well, as it shows that this isn’t your typical corporate set up."
🔹 Favorite memory at VLR/CPS?
"I have to say, that there was something very cathartic about the last time I locked Lyndale Avenue CPS/VLR Locations’ doors after removing the last piece of equipment on site. It was a long overdue move, and it felt great to be able to look at my time in that building with the team members that helped us make it all happen and realize we wouldn’t need to deal with all of that site’s shortcomings anymore."
🔹 Favorite sports team?
"Green Bay Packers. I’m not about to doubt my analysis at age 8 that the Green Bay Packers are the best!”
🔹 Favorite thing to do outside of work?
"Camping and Side by Sides / Four Wheelers – Mix in some road trips with ATV’s in tow and I’m happy!”
🔹 If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
"Japan. Their culture and their cities are very intriguing, and especially with Tokyo, look very futuristic. I think it would be a fantastic trip that would completely remove any semblance of ‘comfort zone’ as I officially understand 0 Japanese.”
🔹 What's the best piece of advice you have ever received?
"To stop focusing on the overarching nightmare and worrying and start knocking out the problems one by one. I think we all have a tendency to look at a large challenge and freezing because it’s just so much to do. Starting something is always better than freezing."
🔹 Do you have any pets?
"3 Cats. It gets a bit chaotic sometimes.”
🔹 If you could have dinner with any historical figure, who would it be and why?
“George Carlin – So I could get a few more laughs as well as his facetious outlook on current affairs.”
