With all the talk of robotaxis, it's easy to overlook low speed shuttles. Oxa just launched their software on a college campus in Jacksonville Florida. There has been a lot of shake-out in this part of the market. And for sure just because they are lower speed does not mean they are inherently safe (despite what so many in that industry have said in the past). But the issues are less complex in a campus fixed-route shuttle deployment than for more general-purpose robotaxis and trucks. And what Oxa has done provides signs of taking safety seriously: BSI safety case assessment, TUV SUD permit for Germany trials. Hope this deployment goes well and they have found a viable deployment/scale-up path. Among other things, hope the operators are making sure all their passengers are seated with seat belts (the most common issue in deployments from other companies). https://lnkd.in/eRmCCjgy

How do you handle a stressful car manoeuvre? Many of us rarely reverse with a trailer, and when we do so, we realise it’s not that easy. It actually takes some practice! We have all turned the steering wheel and been surprised to see the trailer go in the wrong direction, maybe even hitting a mailbox.   This is the perfect operation to practice in our Car simulator, no matter if you are a new or experienced driver. We have several exercises for driving with a trailer, including four exercises for reversing. Practice until you get the hang of it, completely safe and stress-free, then try it our in reality. At Automate I overheard a couple of conversations regarding remote control of a robot that deserved a comment. In A3 Robotics R15.06, Part 2, 5.6.5 f) It shall not be possible for remote changes to the parameters, related to limiting robot motion by means of safety-rated soft axis and space limiting as described in 5.4.3, to take effect without local action to confirm the acceptability of the change and that it did not create a hazard; My note: Remote control of a robot is exceedingly dangerous and must be fully risk assessed with the Safety Team signing off. Due to the level of danger in using this method of control and change, it is wise to consult with a 3rd party Safety Professional as well.
