Most of us might think, "Entering the field of IT is like rocket science!" Especially when I see job requirements, they ask for this and that, with many terms and terminology that I am totally unaware of. I just learned the very basics in my Bachelor's Degree, and now I feel like I have no skills or idea, and I might not even get the job. Well, that's not the case for Entry Level or Level 1 jobs. First and foremost, you must decide on your career path. Choose only one role as a career path at the beginning. For example, in my bachelor's, if my core units focus on business analysis, then there are various job titles within the business analysis family. For example: Business Analyst, Junior Business Analyst, Lead Business Analyst, Principal Business Analyst, Business Systems Analyst, Requirements Analyst. Do self-assessments to see where you are in terms of soft and technical skills. Which role are you best fit in? After that, if you fit for an entry-level or level 1 job role as per your self-assessment, then here are things you will be doing as a graduate-level or level 1 role: Level 1 Job - Follow ➡ Autonomy: Works under close direction. Uses little discretion in attending to enquiries. Is expected to seek guidance in unexpected situations. ➡Influence: Minimal influence. May work alone or interact with immediate colleagues. ➡Complexity: Performs routine activities in a structured environment. Requires assistance in resolving unexpected problems. Participates in the generation of new ideas. ➡Business skills: Has sufficient oral and written communication skills for effective engagement with immediate colleagues. Uses basic systems and tools, applications and processes. Demonstrates an organized approach to work. Has basic digital skills to learn and use applications and tools for their role. ➡Learning and professional development: Contributes to identifying own development opportunities. ➡Security, privacy, and ethics: Understands and complies with organizational standards. ➡Knowledge: Has basic generic knowledge appropriate to the area of work. Applies newly acquired knowledge to develop new skills. Hope you like it. Keep Hustling and Applying jobs. #graduates #ITjobs #entryleveljobs

I organize, coach and empower teams to get complex, high impact work done. I operate with empathy, and humor, but also with a results oriented mindset [see Ted Lasso].
#hiring #jobsearch Three questions I keep thinking about... 1. What differentiator will this person (maybe that's me) bring to the team, division, overall organization? 2. Is the person coachable? Will they continue to grow in the role, beyond? 3. What will I learn from this person? 1. More of the same generally is not enough in a competitive job market (or any time). When hiring I've always looked for a unique soft or hard skillset. One person I hired had maybe the best customer service centered personality I'd ever seen. He'd never been a Business Systems Analyst (open position). However, he had a fantastic reputation on the help desk. Always going above, always following up, always digging for the best solution. His supervisor told me that was his weakness. Spends too much time with one call. Great. I'll take him. His first two years although bumpy in learning the role, he delivered superb customer service for a new product we were implementing. 2. Technology changes, teams change, new responsibilities arise... Is this person not just capable enough, but are they hungry enough to learn and to take lessons that spin into strengths in time. - One of my key evaluators for myself as a leader is did the people on my team improve? Are they better professionals/people? If they are not coachable, then the growth curve is usually minimal. 3. The person coming into the role should bring something I can learn from. Maybe it's mindset, maybe it's a technology area I'm not familiar with, maybe it's education, unique past experience. When I go into interviews for myself right now I think about these three questions, and how I answer them for the role/company I'm applying for. And once I'm in a role that might be on the hiring side these three will be important criteria for hiring decisions.
