A Series (4/5) (see my feed for the start of this thread) How do top performing MedTech companies create and maintain a pattern of success for New Product Development?   Trait #4: Business leaders who take accountability for long-term success.   Since NPD is the ultimate MedTech collaboration effort, business and operating unit leaders need to take real accountability for NPD success. This is challenging for MedTech as it is common amongst BU/OU leaders to hold their positions for less time than that of a typical innovation cycle time for their business. This often leads to a short-term leadership focus in the later stages of NPD which have a more immediate impact on the P&L.   As emphasized in step 1, these endeavors already have an innate characteristic where success or failure is already built in based on the amount of upfront investment and due diligence. The lack of success on the next round of NPD execution will become the “next leader’s problem”. The MedTech companies that consider the ability to drive long term innovation in how they manage leadership progression tend to be the ones who experience consistent NPD success. In the rapidly evolving digital landscape, MedTech companies find abundant opportunities to innovate and deliver value to patients, clinicians, and society. Emphasizing key principles is crucial to capitalize on these possibilities. 𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 - Too often, we set big, audacious goals and then start with pilots or trial runs that lack the scale to produce meaningful results. It certainly is an exciting time to be working on a dissertation on medical isotopes for anticancer therapy! Seeing mobilization on the Canadian research and innovation front from all of these capable and willing stakeholders gives me hope for an improved national cancer strategy in our future. Cancer comes in so many sizes, shapes, and forms, and effects patients who present in equal variety. We need to continue pushing the envelope on patient-specific treatments. Radiotheranostics generally combines the therapeutic potency and diagnostic specificity of two radionuclides, with specially selected biological molecules to create a compound that targets tumour tissues and spares surrounding healthy tissues. While significant challenges must be realized, e.g. creating stable compounds that reach their targets and can be imaged using SPECT/CT or PET/CT modalities all on a patient-centric schedule, the potential benefit to personalized medicine is striking.
