A plasma filament, which had been traversing the Sun's surface for several days, finally reached the solar edge and triggered an impressive eruption. 🎆 Plasma filaments on the Sun are long structures made of cooler plasma that can appear as dark streaks or threads on the solar surface. When there is a disturbance in the magnetic field holding them, an eruption occurs. Some of the plasma falls back onto the Sun, while the rest is ejected into space. Eruptions on the edge of the Sun are a special visual spectacle, captivating both professional astronomers and space enthusiasts. This event underscores the importance of continuous monitoring of solar activity and its impact on Earth and the solar system. The AAS says there is a way in which you can test your solar glasses before using them for the event. If you wear them inside, you shouldn't be able to see anything except for very bright lights, but they will appear faint. If you can see things like pictures on the wall then the glasses are not dark enough for solar viewing. If they pass that indoor test, you can take them outdoors and have a look around. Again, you shouldn't be able to see anything when wearing eclipse glasses other than the sun's reflection off a reflective surface and again, it should appear faint. True, there is a Heart Nebula - perfectly good choice for Valentine's. But I always thought the Trifid Nebula (Messier 20) looked more like an anatomical Heart! The Trifid Nebula is so cool because it's 3 types of nebula in one - an emission nebula (emitting light), a reflection nebula (reflecting light of new born stars), and a dark nebula (absorbing light) all wrapped up in one. The nebula lies at about 4000 light years distance in the constellation of Sagittarius toward the centre of the galaxy from our vantage point. Partial Solar Eclipse in New Jersey was observed at 90%. Here are some tips on how to see the eclipse. The eclipse began at 2.09 pm and lasted till 4.35 pm. The maximum eclipsed sun was between 3.18 pm - 3.22 pm. Make sure you have solar eclipse glasses to view any solar eclipse.
