Have you ever tried to create depth from monocular video? If so, you’re probably familiar with #Midas, #Marigold, #DepthAnything, etc. While they can produce great results on still frames, they often suffer from temporal consistency issues when applied to image sequences. To solve this problem, #ChronoDepth leverages a pre-trained video diffusion model, Stable Video Diffusion. The approach involves a two-stage training process: first, optimizing spatial layers using single-frame depths, then freezing these layers and training temporal layers with video clips. This strategy enhances both spatial accuracy and temporal consistency. Additionally, a sliding window strategy for inference further improves consistency by inpainting frames based on previous predictions. Is it perfect? Definitely not! But the enhancement over existing models is quite remarkable, and I’m confident we will see even more consistent outputs in the near future. In this paper, we consider a simple model of a three-dimensional (3D) coronal arcade. A numerical approach is used to produce a driven normal mode. We find that resonant coupling can occur in 3D, but there are new features that are absent in 2D. In particular, the polarisation of the Alfvén waves can vary with position throughout the Resonant Zone. Moreover, there are an infinite number of possible paths the resonant waves can exist on.

📆On Tuesday 7 November, #ESA will release the first full-colour images captured by its recently launched #Euclid space telescope. Teledyne e2v's team of highly experienced engineers, technicians and scientists designed and manufactured the 36 sensors for #Euclid's visible wavelength camera which forms part of the payload module. The detectors for the #Euclid infrared focal plane were provided by Teledyne e2v's sister company, Teledyne Imaging Sensors, in California. These first full-colour images form part of the mission’s ‘Early Release Observations’ – where Euclid was tasked with scrutinising a set of celestial targets chosen for their public appeal and scientific value. The five images are full of cosmic secrets waiting to be revealed. And this is just the beginning. During its six-year mission, #Euclid will generate the equivalent of a million DVDs of data. These data will be used to create the biggest ever 3D map of the Universe and uncover the secrets of dark matter and dark energy.
