I'm really sorry for all the junior designers who have to deal with these job openings while just starting their career. Some excerpts from the list of expectations : - Minimum 2 years of experience in high viability consumer apps - Do everything design-related: from appstore screenshots to conducting research, designing user flows etc - Autonomous management of your design process from idea to execution - Handling multiple complex projects at the same time at the fast pace - Portfolio exhibiting great visual design execution - Stakeholders management/presentation skills Am I missing something or seems like these days everyone wants a senior person for a price of a part-time student? I know designers with 15 years of experience who's bad in half of those things and still considered great team members and talented pros.

It makes me sad to see so many designers out there struggling with visual design. 🥲 Yes, the form shouldn't go above function, but how the product looks significantly influences how we perceive the product itself. That's why design-led companies are winning. Just getting the basics right can improve the visuals significantly.  Learning the principles of visual hierarchy, typography, and layout will take you a long way. As a hiring manager, even when hiring a UX designer role, a nice-looking portfolio will give you an advantage over the others. Act accordingly. 

If product designers have to pay all their attention to what’s stated in the job description, why don’t job posters pay the same attention to what they actually write there? Sometimes, there is absolute nonsense in these job listings. For example, “create animated prototypes in Keynote”. This is a real example I came across the other day. I was surprised, intrigued, disappointed and felt another spectrum of different emotions. And you know what? The company who posted this doesn’t even use Keynote as a part of their toolset 😅 And there are many examples like this. But unfortunately, to land a dream job, we have to play this game and the rules of the market. I believe they will change in the future, but to stand out, designers need to prove that they fit the role.
