This week On-Country, our bush classrooms learn about the ancient Katha (digging stick) 🍃 Katha has been traditionally used to dig out underground food, shaped or sharpened to effectively dig, with grips for pulling or pushing. Each Katha can also vary in length, dependant on the use. Short Katha are around 45cm in length and are used for short ranged throwing, or peeling bark from trees. Long Katha are between 1-1.2 metres and are handy for walking or crossing fast moving streams, good reach to knock down ripe fruit, lever for moving large logs, and a defensive tool! 📏 Our wise Elders remind us: “If you look after Country, Country will look after you.” Katha teaches us to care for the land and its gifts. 🌳 Want to learn more about our Education Modules? Get in contact with us via email at oncountry@abcau.com.au and let's work together! 📩
