📺 Reflecting on my journey in the Smart TV Industry. Having immersed myself in both the software and hardware aspects of Smart TVs for an extensive period, I've gathered some insights that I'm eager to share with you all: 1️⃣ Trend Observation: A common theme across various brands is the adoption of dashboard-oriented home screens. While this has become a standard, it's worth pondering the implications for user experience. 2️⃣ Innovation Stagnation: Recently, there hasn't been much innovation in hardware. Brands are experimenting with far-field voice control and integrated cameras, but a true market fit remains elusive. 3️⃣ Distribution Evolution: An intriguing development is Telly's initiative to distribute free TV sets. This could potentially reshape the distribution landscape in fascinating ways. 🔍 Deep Dive into the Dashboard Dilemma: From my perspective, the transformation of TVs into dashboard screens is a double-edged sword. While it offers choice, it also exacerbates the problem of overchoice for users. Brands are adding numerous widgets to the home screen, but in doing so, they might be losing sight of what TV is fundamentally about. 📊 The Current Viewing Landscape: According to the latest analytics from Roku, viewing habits are as follows: 50% of users still engage with linear TV 39% prefer streaming services 💡 The Idea: What if TVs start streaming content immediately upon being switched on? The overwhelming array of choices on platforms like YouTube often leads to decision fatigue. What if, instead of navigating through endless titles, users were presented with instant content, similar to the approach of TikTok and Instagram Reels? 🤔 Your Thoughts?: I'm curious to hear your opinions. Do you think this could be a viable direction for TV brands to explore? #SmartTV #Telly
