The KPMG 2024 CEO Outlook is out with interesting findings on ESG. Alongside a growing awareness of ESG’s impact on trust and reputation, the increasingly politicized nature of the ESG agenda is heightening the pressure felt by today’s leaders. Below are some key highlights following the survey of 1,325 CEOs in markets across North America, Europe and Asia Pacific at large companies with revenues greater than $500 million: 🍂 ESG (“execution of ESG initiatives”) constitutes the second most important operational priority of CEOs for the next three years (13%), behind “advancing digitization and connectivity” (18%) across the business. 🍂 69% of CEOs declare committed to the same climate-related strategies over the last 12 months, but are adapting the language and terminology they use to communicate it and to meet changing stakeholder needs - rather than ditching them completely. 🍂 While many CEOs are not confident that their companies will achieve their near-term climate goals, most anticipate significant returns from their sustainability efforts over the next five years. Key barriers to the achievement of climate ambitions, as cited by CEOs, include the complexity of decarbonizing supply chains (30%), and a lack of skills and expertise to successfully implement solutions. 🍂 CEOs acknowledge that the principal downside of failing to meet ESG expectations would be giving their competitors an edge (24%) - recognizing how vital ESG is to value creation, coming out ahead of threat to their own tenure (21%) and recruitment challenges (16%). #CEOOutlook #CEO #ESG #KPMG #climatestrategies #stakeholders #sustainability #sustainabledevelopment

Accoroding to a new report by ESG data science company RepRisk, the number of companies linked to greenwashing - or misleading claims about the environmental impact of their producst and operations, fell by 12% for the first time since 2019, albeit world regional variations. According to the report, the sharpest decline in cases (20%) was found in the EU, where a series of regulations (i.e. the Green Claims Directive and the Empowering Consumers Directive) were adopted over the past year. Meanwhile, however, high-severity cases of greenwashing (based on the consequences of the incident, the extent of its impact, and the degree to which it is intentional and systematic) surged by over 30%. The 🛢Oil and Gas sector accounted for the largest share of greenwashing incidents followed by the 🥗🍷 Food and Beverage, and 🏦 Banking and Financial Services sectors - although the Banking and Financial Services saw also the biggest decline in cases, (27%). Could this decline be signalling a significant shift in corporate behavior? The second (after the previous version of 2019) specific and energy-focused #Eurobarometer survey is published, at the turn of the European Commission mandate and as the #EU emerges from the worst of the energy crisis. Here are the key findings of the latest survey monitoring Europeans’ attitude towards energy policies: 💰Affordability of energy prices comes out as the most important aspect for Europeans, who support policy measures for helping energy-poor households (53%), reducing energy consumption (50%) and promoting self-production and consumption (50%). ⚡️investing in innovative energy technologies is also a top priority, reflecting the EU's ambition for sustainable prosperity and competitiveness. 👨👩👧77% of citizens are taking personal actions to consume less energy. 👷♀️8 in 10 citizens agree that working towards climate neutrality in 2050 will bring prominent benefits in terms of new jobs and investments in the clean energy sector. 🇪🇺77% of respondents are in favour of more coordination at EU level on energy-related matters. #energy #energypolicies #europeancommision #climateneutrality #energyconsumption #energyprices #selfproduction #innovation #energytechnologies

Position Green’s annual ESG100 review of the 400 largest european listed companies’ ESG reporting, gives key insights on how well these companies have aligned to the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (#ESRS), and provides good practices of how to use the standards to drive change, sustainability impact and long-term value creation.
