Attending my first networking event as a newcomer felt like navigating a maze of uncertainty. Dressed in bright colors amidst a sea of neutrals, I clutched my drink for comfort as I ventured into a room filled with unfamiliar faces and business cards. In my attempt to break the ice, I introduced myself with a handshake so firm it may have left more than a good impression. Awkward smiles ensued, and I felt like I had disrupted the delicate ecosystem of the event. I was sure that this space was not for me. Fast forward years later and I am having a conversation with Jhocelin Gilbert at UMulticultural about "The Power of Networking for Newcomers". Life can be funny sometimes. I now have skills to share that resonate with my first "official" networking encounter. In this video, we discuss key takeaways for newcomers, emphasizing the importance of understanding networking goals, exploring interest-matching groups, and stepping out of comfort zones. Share your go-to networking tip or your favourite networking experience in the comments below. #HumanConnections #NetworkingGoals #NewcomersNetworking

🌟 Unlock the Potential of Genuine Networking 🌟 Can you relate to this? Have you ever felt the pressure to network, only to find it forced and insincere? Or been in awe or envious of those who effortlessly connect with others, as if it’s second nature? I’ve always believed that networking and connecting with people have the potential to open doors and reveal opportunities that were previously invisible to us. If you were to reflect on the significant achievements in your life, one thing is certain: they involved the collaboration of others. Yet, for some, networking or connecting with other people, i.e., strangers, can be a struggle or a gut-wrenching experience. This was the case for my daughter when she started secondary school, where none of her friends attended. Some people are aware of the benefits, but the discomfort associated with networking puts them off. What if it doesn’t have to be that way? In the video link below, you'll hear Andrew Griffiths sharing stories and insights that challenge the notion of networking as merely a transactional chore. Instead, it’s about forming genuine connections that can change the course of your career and life. https://lnkd.in/ePwTms7E Andrew attributes every single opportunity that has come his way to meaningful connections. Three reasons why you should watch this video: You’ll discover the number one thing you can do if you are a lone wolf at a networking event to attract a crowd. How to create meaningful conversations. How to make an incredible impact when closing a conversation.
