Join the movement to better support grandfamilies/kinship families as Generations United, American Bar Association Center on Children and the Law, and Think of Us come together on February 8, 2024 at 3pm ET to release the Kinship Unity Action Agenda - a collective advocacy tool to guide our future work to support kinship families! Register today! https://lnkd.in/eJG_aYxH On February 1-2, 2023, Generations United's National Center on Grandfamilies convened its fifth gathering of national advocates, featuring professionals with diverse perspectives and individuals with lived experience in grandfamilies/kinship families. The primary objective was to identify and prioritize key policy opportunities, laying the groundwork for a robust and actionable national kinship action agenda. Post-convening, feedback from the broader advocacy community, grandfamilies services providers, and focus groups with kinship caregivers from varied backgrounds enriched the action agenda. Geographically and racially diverse kinship caregivers provided valuable insights, shaping the agenda into a comprehensive reflection of their needs and concerns. Join us on February 8 and learn how you can be a part of this movement as we embark on a journey to take action and advocate to support the well-being of kinship families! #KinshipUnityActionAgenda #SupportKinshipFamilies #Policy #Grandfamilies

In recognition of National Social Worker's Month, let's spotlight the indispensable role of social workers in addressing Childhood Domestic Violence (CDV) by fostering resilience in impacted children. Hundreds of thousands of these dedicated professionals serve as a critical line of defense by providing counseling and support to impacted children and families, plus advocating for policies that prioritize their well-being. 🚨 Early Detection: Social workers, engaging with the whole family, are often the first to identify signs of CDV, ensuring early intervention to protect children. 🤝Holistic Family Support: Offering counseling and advocacy, they assist both impacted children and mothers in navigating the complexities of CDV and addressing its lasting impact. 🌐 Policy Advocacy: By focusing on public policy, they contribute to the development of programs and laws preventing Childhood Domestic Violence, fostering healthier family environments. Today we celebrate their tireless work in the trenches to help change the odds for those impacted by CDV. #SocialWork #FamilyWellbeing #Advocates #Intervention #Awareness #CDV #ChildhoodDomesticViolence #ChildhoodTrauma #ACEs

As Child Protection Week starts, I would like to acknowledge all those professionals working to support vulnerable children and their families. Child and family work is complex and the workforce needs to be supported within that context. The TISS model provides a framework for practitioners and supervisors that recognises the uniqueness of the practice field, the diversity of practitioners who undertake the work and the diversity of contexts in which they work. If you are working in child protection, OOHC, housing & homelessness, legal & advocacy, youth or justice services and are looking for a trauma-informed practitioner-centred supervision framework for yourself or your staff, here is the link to my book that outlines the TISS model: https://lnkd.in/giDVg4g3
