Finding the right type of counseling is important if you’re looking to improve your mental wellbeing. Different approaches work best for different needs, so start by thinking about the issues you want to address. For example, are you struggling with low motivation at work, or are you hoping to improve communication between you and your partner? Identifying your main concerns can help you to choose the right type of counseling for you. Here’s a quick guide to some of the more common types of counseling available: Individual counseling involves one-on-one support from a counselor, and provides a supportive environment where someone can discuss their thoughts, emotions, and concerns. Marriage/couple’s counseling is designed to help you and your partner explore the causes of disagreements, and find ways to communicate more effectively. Career counseling can help people to explore different career options, discuss work-related concerns, and explore their professional strengths and aspirations. #MentalHealth #MentalHealthMatters

𝗔 𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴: 𝗣𝘂𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 As someone who's navigated the ups and downs of career exploration, I've had my fair share of counseling experiences. But one thing that struck me was when a counselor shared their life experiences as examples to consider mine. While I appreciate the intent, I couldn't help but feel that the focus was more on them than me. That's when I realized what I truly needed: a counselor who prioritizes 𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, 𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗺𝘁𝗵, and a 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻-𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 approach. Someone who would listen attentively to my concerns, goals, and aspirations without projecting their own experiences onto mine. In my opinion, a trained psychologist is best equipped to provide this kind of guidance. With expertise in psychological tests and assessments, they can help me gain a deeper understanding of my strengths, weaknesses, and interests. So, if you're seeking career counseling that's truly about 𝗬𝗢𝗨, I encourage you to look for a psychologist who embodies these values: - 𝗘𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: Your confidentiality and autonomy are respected. - 𝗪𝗮𝗿𝗺𝘁𝗵: You feel heard, validated, and supported. - 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻-𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵: The focus is on your unique experiences, goals, and aspirations. Let's prioritize our career growth and well-being with counseling that puts us first! #CareerCounseling #PersonCenteredApproach #Psychologist #EthicalConsiderations #Warmth #CareerGrowth #Wellbeing #itsAboutYou

It frustrates me so much that nobody is teaching our kids the most crucial thing about their future: how to truly understand who they are. As a career psychologist and behavioral therapist, I see people in their 20s and 30s coming to us completely lost—no idea who they are, what their strengths are, their abilities, skill sets, or even what they want out of life. They’re stuck in jobs they hate, and it’s no surprise. Nobody ever taught them that the key to career fulfillment is aligning their job with their number one strength. Most of them have never even heard this concept before! What’s even worse is that nobody—neither the social workers nor the counselors at school—has ever taken the time to help them figure out what their unique skills and abilities are. And this could have saved them years of friction and dissatisfaction later in life. This is why I’m passionate about what I do. All this confusion and unhappiness can be avoided with the right guidance early on. 🔗 Don’t wait to figure this out for yourself. I am heartened to see that NCDA Publications Development Council (PDC)has released a call for submissions for the forthcoming monograph on career development and mental health. I've been saying it forever, career challenges and mental health challenges often go hand in hand. Topics like stress-related disorders and evidence-based interventions are essential for fostering more effective, holistic career counseling practices. While career practitioners are not qualified to diagnose or treat anxiety, they play a crucial role in recognising how stress and anxiety affect their clients. Both anxiety disorders and routine stress can present with similar symptoms, such as insomnia, difficulty concentrating, fatigue, muscle tension, and irritability (APA, 2022). However, it's important to understand the key differences. Stress typically arises in response to immediate demands or situations. which can motivate action and problem-solving. In career counselling, stress might emerge when clients feel pressured to make decisions, manage workloads, or adjust to new roles. On the other hand, anticipatory anxiety, which I often observe in clients, is rooted in future-focused worries. It involves fear about what might happen, even without an immediate trigger. For instance, clients who has been made redundant often worry they will never find another job, or that they may have to take something they don’t really want to do. This form of anxiety can prevent clients from taking action or exploring new opportunities, as they become overwhelmed by fear of potential future challenges, even when those fears are not based on facts or reality. #CareerCounselling #StressManagement #MentalWellbeing #CareerCoaching

Crisis, Career Crises Series. Episode 2. The purpose of this topic is to understand the general laws of professional evolution, which can reduce anxiety during crises and aid in strategic career planning. There are two varieties of crises: 1. Age-related crisis. 2. Crisis of Professional Evolution, or Career crisis. This post will focus on the first variety. An age-related crisis is a natural stage of ontogenesis characterized by a relatively short period (up to 1 year) of transition. The absence of a goal can lead to a crisis. A crisis occurs when the tasks of the previous life stage are already resolved, while the goals of the next developmental stage are still unknown. There are two options for resolution: 1. Embrace personal development. 2. Risk stagnation, leading to degradation. The choice is yours. Have you ever experienced the age-related crisis? In the next post, I will discuss the second variety. #careerdevelopment #ProfessionalEvolution #CareerPlanning #ProfessionalGrowth #CareerCrisis #PersonalDevelopment
