No matter how diligently you study, taking the ASWB Masters Exam to become a Licensed Master Social Worker can still be a stressful experience. At our recent panel on Licensure and Your Well-Being, alumni shared test-day strategies for new Silver grads preparing to take the exam in the months ahead. Moderator Dr. Gerri K. Connaught, PhD ’24, and panelists Winston E. Brewington, Jr., MSW ’23, Sergio Torres Jr., MSW ’21, and Nadine Raia, MSW ’22, offered the following advice: - Schedule the exam for the time of day when you feel the sharpest. - Visit the exam site ahead of time so you know exactly where you are going. - Take the day off from work or any other obligations so you are free from distractions. - Be sure to get a good night’s sleep and eat a nutritious breakfast beforehand. - Utilize the breaks you’re allowed to take during the exam rather than rushing to finish. - Know that even if you don’t pass, you can take the exam again and it is not an indication of who you are as a person or a social worker.
