“Having an IEP has enabled my daughter, who wears bilateral cochlear implants, to receive the services and accommodations she needs to be successful in a mainstream classroom.” - Anonymous Parent As your child turns three, they transition from Early Intervention to special education in your local school district. Understanding Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) is crucial for tailored support, including literacy. Your service coordinator guides this transition, evaluating needs for an IEP, 504 plan, or no accommodations. An IEP goes beyond mere accommodation; it's a personalized plan addressing learning challenges during academic changes, protected under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). TO ME EVERY CHILD HAS AN "A" AND EVERY CHILD CAN LEARN ! Special Education is not for the physical impaired and psychological impaired children. We have children who have learning disabilities which makes them different from their classmates. Example: 📌 Children of migrant fisher man whose members of the family must work at the fishing port to survive, those kind of learners may not be interested in conventional learning and may find Education uninteresting. A teacher has to deal with them differently. 📌 Children whose parents or father are pastors are likely to be transferred from one place to another which may affect their children Education as it will take time for their children to familiarized with the system of learning in the new environment they find themselves. 📌 Children from poor families may have been little or no experience in some topics treated, which requires they teacher to understand their learning differences and meet them. To help bring out the "A" in children, I offer special education to every child by diagnosing their learning problems, understanding the individual differences, Identifying their needs, meeting their needs and solving their problems. I am Tr. Benedicta Effiong I am Confident that EVERY CHILD CAN LEARN. I CAN TEACH, LEAD AND IMPACT. Teacher education deserts have lower school stability rates (the percentage of students who completed a full year in one school) and serve higher proportions of foster students. All 9 teacher education deserts have a lower student stability rate compared to the state average of 90%, highlighting the issue of student transiency. Foster students tend to be more transient than other students due to frequent changes in home placements that cause them to change schools or even districts. Student transiency is associated with low academic performance and negative school climates, which may impact the recruitment and retention of teachers. When choosing a college consultant for a child with a disability, be sure to interview those you are considering to be sure they have the relevant experience. The consultant should be well-versed in special education rights and laws such as IDEA and ADA and how those laws change when a student moves from high school to college. Consultants should have training and experience in understanding neuropsychological evaluations and educational testing and in working with students with specific disabilities. https://lnkd.in/eG7udZij To continue educating yourself on what to look for, read Elizabeth C. IEPs are legal documents that outline the individual goals, accommodations and services of a student with a disability. IEPs are essential to ensuring every child receives FAPE (free and appropriate public education) in the LRE (least restrictive environment). This can be challenging but as an educator we have to do what is in the best interest of the child. ✨What questions do you have about IEPs? #specialeducationteacher #teacherlife #seldcontainedteacher #specedteacher #specialeducator #specialneeds #specialeducation #iep #iepteammember
