This is wild, and entirely unnecessary. A conference agenda lineup so homogenous that the organizer resorted to creating fake speaker profiles to boost (the appearance of) gender diversity. Need help finding speakers from underrepresented backgrounds? Here are some tips: 💡 Diversify your agenda committee. Agenda committees typically source speakers who they know. And who do they know? People's networks tend toward homogeneity, especially so for white Americans (source: https://lnkd.in/gn8DuE9E), so creating a diverse agenda committee is a good first step. 💡 Think more broadly about what creates expertise. Basing speaking offers on corporate titles and whether someone has spoken before can create a closed and homogenous loop (not to mention lack of fresh ideas and new content). 💡 Look for and use diverse speaker databases. You can likely find many by googling. I'd be remiss if I didn't plug Choir's Voices platform here. https://lnkd.in/ga6CXJGt 💡 Intentionally expand your network! Attend and support conferences for under represented groups. For example the Grace Hopper Conference or Afrotech. 💡 Engage sponsors and event stakeholders to let them know you are actively seeking greater representation on the agenda and ask for their help. Need more tips? DM me. This is the work I do every day at Choir! https://lnkd.in/g-Ut9MgZ

The May/June edition of RedTech magazine is all about the youth; how to reach out to them as listeners and how to attract them into our talent pool. Our cover star María Jesús Espinosa de los Monteros García, chief audio officer at PRISA Media, shares how the Spanish media giant fosters a love for audio among young people and encourages talented youth to join the company. Elsewhere, DRM Digital Radio’s Ruxandra Obreja explains how digital radio reaches out to young people in Africa and how it is crucial in promoting gender equality in education. Meanwhile, Buzz Knight discusses how to get new talent involved in radio, and Graham Dixon highlights the importance of listening to young people if we wish to reach them. We also have an eye on new technologies, with Juha Lahti, executive producer at Finnish network Yle, asking how we can ensure an ethical stance on AI and new WorldDAB President Jacqueline Bierhorst looks to the future. In contrast, South 180-founder David Fernández Quijada examines why broadcasters are turning their backs on AM after nearly a century. Get back in touch with the youth with RedTech Magazine May/June. This is real allyship! Dave Oates, APR you will like this one! 👹 Backlash over fake female speakers shuts down developer conference. Male organizer also accused of secretly running female coder Instagram account. 👏After an event organizer, Eduards Sizovs, was accused of making up fake female speakers to attract high-profile speakers to an online developer conference called DevTernity, several of the event's top-billed speakers promptly withdrew. 🔥This is what using your power and privilege looks like in action. Demand diversity. Demand equity. Walk away from places that take advantage of minorities without giving back. 🔥There are plenty of fantastic female identifying speakers - let me know if you need some names before you get cancelled!

Last April, I volunteered as a registration team on International Women Day conference. Before D-day, I prepared to give good experience for both attendees and our registration team. So I tried to make a Chrome extension to scan and "send message" the item to the registration platform. Because previously, we should find attendees name one by one. It was a success, the queue process took shorter time and no long queue at the gate. Happily, the extension was used again at GDG Bogor I/O Extended 2023. And handled hundreds of attendees to check-in and receive their merch in short time. By this scanner, I learned how Google Chrome Extensions works, like sending the intents between the extension and chrome tab. Such fun way to sandbox and actually use them on GDG events.

Over half of all Danish companies have one thing in common: There are only men in the boardroom🤨 A brand-new analysis from our partner DI - Dansk Industri shows that in 50.9% of all Danish companies with at least 50 employees, there are exclusively men in the boardroom. And even though the proportion of female board members has particularly increased in the very large companies, we can do much better. It's not about women missing out – it's about companies missing out on talent. If you're still wondering where to find them, look no further! At SelectionF, we're thrilled to introduce you to over 500 Nordic experienced and competent female board members ready to bring their expertise to your organization. 🚀💼 Fremtidens Bestyrelser #board #Diversity #female #GenderEquality
