Dana has worked at VECA for 5 years as an Associate Project Manager. She currently works out of our Seattle office on Technologies Division projects for the Port of Seattle. “My favorite part of the job are my coworkers and being part of a team. When great minds get together, ideas turn into processes, which turn into a product and the feeling of comradery that comes from that is very rewarding. It is also nice to be able to see a finished project and think, “hey look- we helped do that!” A fun fact about Dana is that she loves to explore new places! “I have equal love for the PNW, being outdoors, hiking or camping, and traveling the world. I lived in Panama during a semester of college – teaching ASL - and it was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I hope to continue my travels, next up, Sicily!” Thank you, Dana, for all that you do to make VECA a great place to work! Each month, employees are nominated for recognition in our Employee Spotlight feature. As part of our VECA Value ‘Empowering Each Other to Succeed’, we acknowledge the contributions and individual strengths of our team members. #waconstruction #Seattlewa #construction #veca #electricians #vecaelectric #vecatech #AEC #Seattlewa

Looking forward to many more years together! Here's a little Q&A with Luke, so you can get to know him better: Q: How have you found our business culture to be? A: I enjoy how generally laid back the workplace is, especially in combination with the rigor of the work itself. Q: What is your definition of success? A: Becoming more capable and learning something new every day, while doing work that can make the world around me better. Q: Who motivates you? A: The people that our work affects. I think that our work, done well, can really make a positive difference in the lives of the people who use it. Q: What is your favorite thing about working for ASEC? A: The people at ASEC are easily my favorite part about working here. I have found a lot of support in my time here, both professionally and personally. Being surrounded by smart and helpful people that I enjoy really helps when the workdays are hard. Q: Where would you go on your ideal vacation? A: That depends what mood I'm in. If I wanted something adventurous, I would love to see Tibet or Bolivia. If I wanted something just a relax, I would buy some new books and find a beach. #congrats #Ateam #anniversary #camaraderie

I agree that, “Shipping is a lifestyle not a job”. I do not believe in work/life balance but in integration. It is a privilege to work in an international industry which has a recorded 5,000 year history, starting from the Mediterranean, to Greece, to Rome, to the European empire, to the rise of the East. At the end of coloniasm, shipping played a vital role in enabling the rise of globalization and will again play a central role at the end of globalization and the rise of regional shipping, as we see the rise of rail corridors on the continent connecting mineral-rich-landlocked countries to ports. At Linsen Nambi we support curious people who are able to organize and re-organize themselves and their resources into many combinations which has allowed us to launch Linsen Nambi Marine Surveying and a junior shipbroker internship at Linsen Nambi Shipbroking. These endeavors are successful because, firstly they meet the needs of our customers and secondly we have a culture that actually implements business strategy. Drawing on our pool of seafarers we have solved the good-fit dilemma, increased our employee engagement, increased our top line revenue through our new marine surveying services and achieved quality growth in our bunker business, which cannot be competed away - evidenced by our competitors becoming collaborators. We reman intentional about protecting our culture, because as the saying goes, “you don’t want a bad strategy implemented well, or a good strategy implemented poorly” Christopher Vonheim BW Group INSTITUTE OF CHARTERED SHIPBROKERS, SOUTH AFRICA

Navigating Dual Roles in Maritime! In our next February Career Series, we're highlighting the ability for multi-functional career paths within the maritime industry and this time we’re featuring Georgia Terlick! Georgia's story demonstrates the versatility and dynamic nature of careers in maritime, blending operational management with commercial strategy. Georgia occupies a hybrid role that combines strategic and operational responsibilities: "I work in a hybrid role at Svitzer where part of my time is working in the Commercial team where our focus is looking after our customers and growing our business, the other part of my role is Port Manager for our towage operations in Bunbury and Albany." Her entry into the maritime sector was fortuitous, leading to a decade-long career: "I joined the offshore industry by chance, before moving across to Svitzer where I have stayed for over 10 years working in different operational and management roles as well as being focused on some commercial and innovation projects." Georgia's journey at Svitzer highlights the breadth of opportunities available in the maritime industry, showcasing how diverse experiences can lead to roles that impact both the business and operational sides of the industry. Her ability to manage dual roles effectively not only demonstrates her versatility but also the dynamic possibilities within maritime careers. Thankyou Georgia for sharing your story at Svitzer Australia and your journey in the maritime industry, embodying the spirit of innovation and customer focus that drives the sector forward. #WomenInMaritime #CareerSeries #MaritimeCareers #Svitzer #PortManagement #CommercialStrategy #MaritimeInnovation #DiverseCareers #CareerSeries #inspireinclusion

🚂 Last week, Story's specialist in-house track team were proud to support the two-day The PWI Practical Trackwork Challenge event hosted at Bo’ness & Kinneil Heritage Railway. Could you consider a career in the Finnish maritime sector? Read these tips by Suzana and John 👇 Suzana 💭Do your homework: learn about the country, culture and the specifics of its maritime sector. This will help you to adjust quickly. You can get by perfectly well in Finland on English alone, but that learning the Finnish language is highly beneficial for integrating more deeply into the society. John 💭 Hurry up. Finland is a good place to work in a thriving industry. It's not just the shipyard, it's the whole supply chain around it. Finns like to try and keep the supply chain close, which I think is excellent for the economy. So, my advice is to get on a plane, you'll enjoy it.
