Vector Disease Control International (VDCI)’s Post

👀 Look at the size difference! We collected these mosquitoes during our recent emergency response efforts in Texas. The top mosquito is a Psorophora ciliata also known as a Gallinipper, often known for its huge size and painful bites, while the one below is Aedes species a more typical-sized mosquito. #MosquitoFunFacts #Gallinippers #MosquitoControl

I have a deep interest in mosquito surveillance because, while many people view mosquitoes as nothing but pests, it's important to recognize that they also play a crucial role in the ecosystem. It's true that they are responsible for transmitting harmful diseases, but there's more to them than meets the eye. As a Vector Control Officer, I’ve come to find mosquitoes incredibly fascinating, especially when studying them from an entomological perspective. My work allows me to explore their behavior and biology, and I genuinely enjoy the opportunity to contribute to controlling their populations while learning more about these complex insects.
