Why the acquisition of YOOX NET-A-PORTER by Mytheresa is good news for fashion brands, according to some industry observers. “At a time when top luxury brands are successfully repatriating their online sales therefore weakening multibrand distribution, It will be reassuring for middle size and and niche players that a powerful and luxury-focused online multibrand leader emerges,” Bruno-Roland Bernard, professor of finance and luxury economics at Institut Français de la Mode says. Some industry sources are questioning the logic of market concentration. “Concentration is never good for market efficiency but in this instance Net-a-Porter was in survival mode,” Bernard adds. In other words, brands are better off with NET-A-PORTER still standing, and boosted by Mytheresa’s efficient technology and operations than with an ailing Net-a-Porter. Vinted reports 61% revenue growth 👏 The popular online marketplace has announced double-digit profitability for 2023 with revenue growth at 61%. It announced revenues of €596.3m for the year ending 2023 with a net profit of €17.8m. Vinted's success can be pointed towards increased penetration of existing markets and expansion into luxury fashion, as well as geographical expansion into Denmark, Finland and Romania. Thomas P., CEO of Vinted, commented: "Our performance in 2023 was not only proof that we can deliver strong growth but that we are at the forefront of a market with huge potential.
