There are those who aren't, or less, happy about the developing cultivated meat industry. The nascent industry faces a public relations challenge amidst a campaign raising concerns about its environmental impact, animal welfare implications, and scientific legitimacy. Critics, spearheaded by the Center for the Environment and Welfare, present various arguments against the technology, including potential energy and water demands, the lack of conclusive data on animal welfare benefits, and questions surrounding the regulatory oversight of novel cell culture protocols. Industry proponents, however, counter these assertions by highlighting potential environmental advantages over traditional meat production, citing reduced land use and greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, they emphasize the ongoing animal welfare research within the field and point to the rigorous safety assessments conducted by regulatory bodies. Are consumers still willing to spend more on meat? According to 2024 Power of Meat, “91% of consumers surveyed say that they can be persuaded to spend a little more on meat and poultry.” Anne-Marie Roerink, principal and founder of San Antonio-based 210 Analytics LLC, notes that how consumers look at premium meat is different today, because their preferences are more personalized...the consumer definition of premium is related to production claims such as organic, grass-fed or free-range. For many consumers, health, animal welfare and the environment are all interconnected when they think of a better-for-you choice. If your shoppers are seeking premium quality beef and pork that carry the claims most important to them, Meyer Natural Foods family of brands has you covered. Top claims important to consumers of beef and pork include raised in the USA, no antibiotics, no added hormones, all-natural*, grass-fed and organic. More states lining up to ban cell-grown meat By Dan Flynn on September 6, 2024 So called alt-meat, cultivated from cells and grown in laboratory-like facilities, has experienced regulatory and market success in only fits and starts. But it remains enough of a threat to traditional animal agriculture. And several states are ready to save animal agriculture by banning alt-meat entirely. Three states have already enacted laws limiting or entirely banning cultivated meat. https://lnkd.in/gWz4JMfX

It is ironic how only law makers seem to be confused about plant-based products while their own supreme court and population is not confused at all, in part because of proper labeling. Adjusting plant-based labels to whatever animal agriculture would allow will only confuse consumers. This decree will do the exact opposite of what the French government says it is intended to do. What do you think the actual intentions of this decree are? Post your thoughts below.

Top 100 Marketers under 30 in 2016 | Great marketing is about selling an emotion, not a product. Regional Marketing Manager - South @handpickedhotels
If anyone knows about real food, it’s us, the Italians. So it’s perhaps not surprising that it is #Italy that is moving to ban lab-grown meat. Lab-grown ‘meat’ (grown in steel vats, and steel is 14% nickel, so we’re looking at toxic metal contamination right off) is going to be another needless, high-tech, ultra-processed junk food. The animal welfare solution is to eat much less meat, so that what little we do eat comes only from humanely-reared, free-range, open-air, organically farmed animals. Of course, we should boycott factory-farmed meat, it is cruel as well as toxic, but factory-grown protein is not the answer. https://lnkd.in/eanPh62z

A really interesting story in the news today that we could only be a few years off having lab grown meat being sold commercially, which personally I think sounds really good from lots of angles, including environmental impact, animal welfare and food security for a seemingly ever increasing world population. I love eating meat and I grew up on farm so I am very familiar with the meat production industry and the fact that the UK has some of highest standards of animal welfare in the world. However, there is a limit to how much food you can produce from traditional farming without impacting animal welfare or further damaging the environment. In the last few years I have been trying to make sure that most of the food I buy has the best welfare standards and lower carbon footprint but this is not always possible and I realise not everyone can do the same. So I think lab grown meat and developments such as vertical farming for vegetables is where the mass production food industry will need to go in the near future and we will probably end up considering traditionally farmed meat either an aborration or a real delicacy. https://lnkd.in/ekkfxaXG
