IN THESE TOUGH TIMES : Should premium car dealerships Maintain or Challenge Status quo ? The current auto crisis has brought worries and the biggest impact will happen in premium car dealerships who garner the lowest market compared to mass volume car dealerships. So I was talking to one of the premium dealership owners ( he spoke to me on condition of anonymity) that in interest of retaining profit he would be cutting down on expense till the situation improves. Also he would be maintaining the status quo. I was wondering how many such dealership owners must be thinking, then it dawned I must pen this post not only for them for others as well. I asked this gentleman, "By maintaining nothing or status quo how do you expect things to improve " . He said , " I will save on the cost and energy of my people". I said , " Status quo is a farce, is it not simply a way to not do enough to move your business ahead" . I knew doing nothing also require to avoid and spend energy . Here are some things what will happen by Status quo : 1. Sales will not improve because I am not putting money and energy into finding what my customers want. 2. I am going to demotivate my team because sales only become exciting when I challenge myself. 3. There is always a bottom level to what cost can be saved , you can't go below it else business must close. 4. Your team will either ways spend energy by justifying to themselves and other about problems 5. Scarcity of growth will make your customers go away. No one wants to deal with losing business. 6. Your team will start to move out especially the winners further creating problems in sales. 7. Your other business like After sales, Used car will also suffer Thus, you may wonder what's the solution ? When you are rock bottom , the only solution is to challenge and find new ways to innovate. Because the challenge in the market can be overcome when the market improves , but challenges inside the mind of the owner will remain whether the market is good and bad.
